Cat tails
Really like this programme! Think it's utterly interesting to see how these ladies take on combat with so many different pests. Todays programme featured the battle against rabbits, where one of 'the ladies' uses ferrets to flush them out. She also uses her terriers to catch and despatch rats. Such an old school approach, but a very fresh view on battling the problem of poison resistence. Also the animals don't die a slow death by bleeding out. The bed bugs do give me the total creeps.... hope I will never be confronted with THOSE!
The Dogmother
I f you're interested in ferreting, then you should come out with my friend and I when it's rabbiting season; she has ferrets and does quite a bit of pest control on local farms and estates. Cat tails
If I lived any closer, I would love too! Only visited UK twice and that was years ago and both a city trip to London. Would love to visit again though!
soapdragon
I have just caught up on two of these progs and really enjoyed them...esp as we have rats in the compost heap at the mo! Hubs sets the trap but can't cope with resultant decapitated rodent so its the latex gloves and nappy bag out and off I go! Mind you, none for a while and no tunnels so hoping they have been dealt with!!!
Cat tails
Ieuw... I hope you saw the last of those rats! Apart from being women in a "mens job", I also think the pest side is very interesting! Hope to never be confronted with most of those pests! I could deal with bees and wasps. Even mice and rats... But bedbugs!
chickencam
I have only seen one of these programmes must catch up with the others. Fascinating if a little

soapdragon
I am very much hoping that it was one lone rat!!! Caught and disposed of early last week and we re baited the trap and have not added any fresh food waste so that the bread in the trap will seem more appealing (theoretically!) No more tunnels through the compost or other disturbance since the critter's demise and nothing more in the trap hence my optimism! I have suggested to OH that we start putting food waste back in this weekend and then, if we get further signs of activity, stop the waste and put the trap back!!! chickencam
What did you bait with? We have had no success with our trap. I put poison down one of their tunnels before Christmas and that seemed to do it for us.
Grandmashazzie
I read somewhere to handle traps etc with gloves otherwise Mr Rat will smell human smells and avoid it.
soapdragon
I think OH just used a nice looking bit of fruit from the food waste bin This time it was bread as we had some stale. Good tip about handling the trap...make sense!

chickencam
I have had success with peanut butter in mouse traps in the garage. The little critters like to use the hessian from the potato sacks as nesting material and nibble the potatoes whilst they are at it.
soapdragon
We used to do re enactment but, since ES aged 10 was born havn't. Our 16 ft by 11 ft canvas tent has been folded up in the back of the garage and I am terrified to get it out and put it up (even if we could find anywhere big enough) in case it has been nibbled!! Will have to bite the bullet and see this summer!
