Chickens and badgers should i worry ?

Recommended Posts

The other night we had a young badger in our garden.

Last night, my parents who had come to stay, said they heard strange noises in the garden like a growl and a china bowl being pushed along the concrete path. I had used the bowl to make the pellet porridge and there was a bit left in it which was all gone (the bowl was in the garden not chicken run)

Although it is nice to have wildlife in our garden I know badgers can be quite destructive and kill pets but my biggest worry is the omlet cube and run and if it could stand up to a badger attack, especially as I leave the cube door open at night.

We tried blocking off how the badger got in but it just bulldozed what we had done.

What is the best thing to do ?

I have removed the bowl so there is no food in the garden but how determined are they ?

I don't really know but our next door neighbour claims that there is a badger run along the hedge between our gardens, I have never seen any evidence just his word. If he is correct they have never interfered with the chooks who live in a (purple eglu)(blue eglu) and a (cube purple) .

I would guess not leaving food or anything out that would tempt them would be a good plan.

Hopefully someone will have more information for you.

Hi Yes badgers are something to worry about they are so strong they can pull doors off coops and burrow up through floors just make sure everything is as secure as you can get it leanne :)

I thought that might be the case :(

We have got some big rocks round the garden so I will put them to good use or rather hubby will do it for me.

It must have been in the garden again last night because some holes have appeared unless it is a fox.

We have had a big tidy up today to make sure there is nothing tempting around and tomorrow will block off again how it is getting in.
