Chickpea
Poor mum's in hospital now, had the op yesterday (took all afternoon ) didn't get to see her after...I've got to run her shop until I start my new job next month...but now I've come down with bacterial tonsillitis feeling pretty horrid, and now I'm worried I'm not going to be allowed in the ward to see her if I'm 'infectious'. I'll have to phone and see...arghh!!!
Egluntyne
Poor you. I hope your mum is on the mend. Plenty of rest for you and gargle with warm salty water as often as you can.
Karen & co.
I'm sorry to hear about your Mum and hope she gets better soon also you must make sure you get enough rest and fluids, if you are on antibiotics, then take them regularly and finish the course (sorry slipping back into nurse mode ) I know it's hard when you are worried about someone else, but if you don't look after yourself, then you won't be able to look after her too take care, karen x
Kathy C
Big hug!!! What a rotten time you are having. It must be tough to not be able to visit at this time and feel ill too. Why don't you contact flying flowers, or similar, and order your mum a bunch and a teddy bear (as a temporary Chickpea to hug) AND one for yourself too? I hope you will both feel better soon. Another big hug.
susiepoos
Big hug!!! Why don't you contact flying flowers, or similar, and order your mum a bunch and a teddy bear (as a temporary Chickpea to hug) AND one for yourself too? Jusy a bit of advice - most hospitals do not allow flowers on the ward anymore due to infection risk. Nibbles, juice, magazines or vouchers for the bedside phones are a good idea that way she can keep in touch with you but I really don't think you should visit with bacterial tonsillitis - whilst she's weak the last thing she needs is to pick up a nasty infection which could set her back weeks - discuss with the medical staff on the ward first. Take care of yourself and love to your Mum
Chickpea
Thanks guys, I needed a few words of comfort before I go open up the shop! -am going to ring the ward soon and check, no info on their website except that they do accept flowers (but I'll check that again anyway )
theherd123
Oh ChickPea you are having a pants time! I do hope your mum is ok and try and take some downtime yourself despite running the shop. I think a hot bath with bubbles and an early night are in order.
chelsea
Poor you, no wonder you feel rotten, tonsilitis is horrible When I had it, I had no energy to get out of bed, let alone go to work. I really hope you get rid of it and be back to your normal self soon

Cate in NZ
Take care Chickpea. Tonsillitis is miserable, no 2 ways about it, but if it's bacterial it should respond well to antibiotics and clear pretty quickly. Try the fluids and things like honey & lemon or salt water gargles can help, and just look after yourself. I agree with Susiepoos that it wouldn't be a great idea to visit your Mum now, hard on you both I'm sure, but she's likely to be low post op and more vulnerable to infections, and quite honestly it sounds as if tonsillitis is the last thing she needs right now. She'll be safe and well looked after in hospital (I hope) and hopefully other family members will rally round and visit. It'll be in the weeks after she's home and recovering that she'll really be needing you, and you're care and concern will really be needed to support her then. Chickpea
I'm feeling much better today! I was able to go see mum in the end as long as i didn't get too close and sucked an antibacterial losenge! She's on the mend and may be able to come home tomorrow! I'm off to London shortly for a launch of a new rose to be named for a charity I do a lot of work for (www.aabc.org.uk) Apparantly Simon Cowell will be there (he's a patron) as well as some other 'celebs' (I use that term loosley as Danielle Lyodd -sp? is also meant to appear )

Rona
Good news, glad things are improving but be careful you don't overdo it. What's the name of your rose and is it for sale yet.? I love roses and can always find space for another one in the garden and its such a lovely way to support a charity.
Chickpea
Well, I got back about 1/2 hour ago, and had a fab time (pics to follow when they're emailed me!) Copious amounts of free champagne, string quartet, and lots of milling and shmoozing. Met Simon Cowell, charmingly nice chap, and his mother is wonderful! Danielle Lloyd was also there, avoided her cos it looked like she'd been tangoed! Also that girl that was on BB this year Shabnam was there and I chatted to her a bit, very nice in a fake kinda way! The rose is called 'imagine' and I ordered 3 rootstock for £23, I'm gonna give one to my Grandma and the other two are gonna go in the cottage garden we're redeveloping. The CEO of the charity and her husband who is the head of research I've known since I was 11 (so about 14 years!) and they went and visted my mum yesterday which was good of them (she's a trustee of the charity and top fundraiser!) Such lovely people, it was a really lovely evening.
