gavclojak
I wonder if any of you might have a clue what this might be. I was checking the girls over today and felt a lump on Barbara's tummy, I thought I'd was a bit of dirt but it was attached, I can only describe it like a nipple with a black centre and about an inch wide....Could it be scar tissue from an old injury? She is fine in herself and didn't seem worried by me touching it. Any ideas? Edited June 15, 2015 by Guest
Egluntyne
None without a photo. I'm fairly certain that it won't be a nipple though!
gavclojak
Yes I kind of ruled that out it's that shape with a bit in the middle slightly raised and black! I will try and get a photo, very weird. My guess is she has had a splinter or cut and its the result of that as it looks old. I don't know how I missed it, she gets picked up at least once a week to see how heavy she is and to give her a once over for mites etc....I feel really bad, I hope it hasn't caused her any pain:(((
jimnpaula
Hmm, can chickens get inflamed feather follicules?
mullethunter
From what I can see it looks like a scab or a massive blackhead (so yes maybe infected/inflamed feather follicle).
gavclojak
it does feel like a scab but its kind of raised, like a mini volcano....not sure what happened but it doesn't look inflamed or sore so not to sure as to leave well alone and keep and keep an eye or take her to the vets? The Dogmother
Can't really tell form the photo, but if it isn't bothering her and doesn't look inflamed, them I'd leave well alone. If it look at all iffy, then get her to the vet.
gavclojak
Thanks DM...i will keep an eye on it but it looks to me that whatever it was is on the way out as opposed to starting. Always something to worry about isn't there
The Dogmother
Not easy to tell, but it looks as if she could have had small wound and got seem dirt in it, which has formed a callous
gavclojak
A callous!! That's exactly what it looks like. Gosh my description of a nipple and a volcano I think your right as she flies out of the cube and always lands on the little bit that pokes up from the open door, I have covered it with woodchip . She's a little madam!!
