Denisenewlands
Firstly, just wanted to ask why all the groups are locked and you can't post a new thread? Secondly, can anyone help? I had a bunch of chicks that I hatched on Easter Sunday/Monday. I kept 2 but they are completely different sizes! One looks like an average 11 week old bantam and the other is the size of a 3 week old chick! Both are pure bantams... It's so wired. Is there such a thing as a chicken with dwarfism? It looks fine, there are no visible signs of illness... Just really small!
mullethunter
Where were the eggs from?
Beantree
We hatched some bantams a few years ago. One of the cockerels was half the size of his brother at 6 weeks and remained that way until he suddenly grew at 6 months. They both ended up the same size. Egluntyne
Firstly, just wanted to ask why all the groups are locked and you can't post a new thread? Eh? Could be that you were trying to post when there was a forum upgrade going on.
The Dogmother
What was the provenance of the eggs, and which breed are they supposed to be? It is entirely possible that hey codul be different breeds, and some bantams are smaller then others. If there's nothing else obviously wrong with the chick, then I'd just keep an eye, and let it get on with things.
Redwing
Aside from the possibility they are a different breed (as DM says above) the term used by breeders in this case is 'failure to thrive' these birds usually catch up to close their intended size but most breeders will say that they are never really quite right even if they do
