Shock at cost of Flubenvet.

Recommended Posts

Going for a walk earlier took us straight past a local vet that we no longer use and into my head popped a thought.

We went in and asked if they had any Flubenevt which they did

Then the nurse told me you could only buy it with a prescription.

So I said would that mean I had to bring all 6 chickens in to which she said she would check with the vet.

The vet came out and said I could just buy it

So I asked the nurse how much it was and she told me it was £34 for 60g

I asked her what the sell by date was and she said Oct this year to which I answered that was not very long at all and would just fit 2 wormings in if I started now.

So she said she could sell it to me for less but I said it would have to be like £5 for it to be of any use.

So guess what, I still don't have any Flubenvet.

I'm sure I pay £20 ish at the vets we usually go to.

If you get a 5kg bag of pellets, that will be more than enough for their treatment. If you have had them for a while, and never wormed them, then it would be worth doing another treatment 3 weeks later. Otherwise treat them 3-4 times a year.

Remember that they should eat those pellets and nothing else for 7 whole days, and preferably not free range, or if they do, only for an hour at the end of the day.

Might be better to get a Fecal Worm Egg Count done and see if they need worming and buy drugs accordingly.

We routinely FWEC all our Falcons every month (I'd only test chickens once or twice a year) to check for parasite eggs, if we find anything we try to identify and suggest treatment - the vets are always on hand to check the sample and prescribe as necessary.
