I am not a happy bunny; received the regular notice from Eon that they need to inspect my gas and electricity meters - not a problem, made an appointment, and block out a whole Saturday morning from 8am until noon to sit in (do admin) and wait for them to call.

 

This was the 2nd occasion that they have failed to call when an appointment was made for them to inspect my meters. According to their records, there was no answer when they knocked at 8am, which is total twaddle as I was sat at my desk, 10 feet from the front door from 7:30am onwards. If anyone had knocked or used the doorbell, I would have heard it, and the dogs would have gone mad! Interestingly, this is the same excuse as was used 2 years ago when they also failed to turn up, so methinks that the inspector likes an extra long lie in

I now have a new appointment for 10 days' time, and this is the only other Saturday morning that I can do between now and Christmas.

 

Has anyone else had this problem?

Although we live in a rural spot, most people manage to find us without too much problem.

However, the meter reader seems to have a dreadful problem in locating us. I have lost count of the amount of times I've waited in for them to show. It's infuriating. When I've phoned to complain, I've been told that either that he couldn't find us,or that he had called and there was no one in.

 

Having said that, there was a knock at the door last week and shock, horror, there he was! He was very grumpy... don't know if he'd been given a talking too. Anyway, he knows where we are now

I wouldn't mind, but this isn't even for a reading as i submit those online each month. They are legally bound to inspect the meters every 2 years. As it is, this inspection seems to amount to standing about 6 fet away and peering at it.

Thats interesting; we have been with EON for ages and, as far as I am aware, have never had anyone come and look at the meter

 

If it happens again, DM, I'd be inclined to bill them for your time. A friend tried this and, tho they didn't pay the invoice she sent them, they did know something off the next bill!!!!

Our gas meter has been going to be replaced for the last 4 years. They have made appointments and failed to show and we got fed up with it. They then threatened legal action to gain access. We said fine! If you do get an order it will be for a specific time and you will have to turn up! Since then there has been no contact.

Many years ago we were being threatened with court action for having (they said) refused access to inspect the meter. My then husband wrote in large print on the letter 'The meter is in a box outside the house. You should know, you put it there!' and put it in the reply-paid envelope. It all went quiet after that.
