ChickenPoopGarden
Today, of all days, when I was too sick to shut them in last night and spent the night shivering and sweating and worrying a fox would come, and then too poorly to go and check on them in the morning. Just felt well enough to go outdoors at half three to give them a wee treat and there it was, in the nest box! And all three little boys were with me! Couldn't have timed it better! Although one of the daft bints had pecked it so it must have been lying there since this morning. Do NOT want to encourage that habit... How do I attach a photo? ChickenPoopGarden
Feeling better now AND the mystery chicken has continued to lay! Today we spent the morning completing their WIR, tearing up our hands on chicken wire and fiddling with muddy cable ties in the freezing rain whilst the girls free-ranged. Marshmallow decided to break from the group (i don't know if all hens stay in a group, but mine stick together at all times!) and forfeit some of her garden time to sit in the nest box. So the mystery is solved! Whilst we were yomping around, clattering and banging, little Marshmallow laid another egg! What an awesome chickey-doo she is. I expected personality from the silkies, but not 3 eggs in 4 days during the winter. I'm hoping she'll be wafting good hormones at the other girls now, especially my two normal sized hens. We could do with some sensibly sized eggs!
