Cinnamon
We don't really have a holiday booked as such, but are just back from a week long house hunting trip to France, & are off again on the same next week. Its pretty hard work, especially the organising of meeting the French estate agents, who it would seem really don't want to be bothered in showing people properties We try to break the long days or travelling up with a nice meal & a glass of wine at some point We have seen some true horrors of houses, some absolute beauties, narrowly missed one we loved & are now panicking slightly as our house has sold & we need to find somewhere....... Its my 50th this August, & it looks like we will be in the midst of moving at that time, rather than being sprawled out on a Greek beach as I would have preferred! soapdragon
I have very fond childhood memories of holidays spent at Bigbury on Sea Hope you have a lovely time! This will be our 9th time in the village itself......prob the last as will be stuck with expensive school hols from next year so within walking distance of the beach will be out of price range! Love, love the area and so will go back around Kingsbridge/Modbury etc next time. We always went to the same place each year when I was growing up and, lovely though it is to travel, when the children are young its nice to be in familiar surrounding where you know how to get to A&E, where to buy nappies at 10.00pm etc Its really nice to hear about other people's plans and trips, though....food for thought for the years to come! Groovychook
I remember being fascinated by the sea tractor Ooh, I'm getting a pang to go and visit. I can feel a day trip coming on!
soapdragon
I remember being fascinated by the sea tractor Ooh, I'm getting a pang to go and visit. I can feel a day trip coming on! If you look on youtube there is a clip of the sea tractor in mad, stormy conditions! Its terrifying and very nearly goes over at one point! Well worth a watch if you know the area etc! gavclojak
We have just come back from Mexico....I absolutely adore it and it was my fourth visit. I try to get in a sneaky week in Egypt around September but that doesn't look like that going to happen with all that's going on out there. My heart is broken for the Egyptians and indeed anyone who works in tourism.
soapdragon
We had two wonderful holidays in Egypt, our last splurge before the boys arrived! They are wonderful people and so very many rely on tourism and so the current problems must be causing real hardship. More cheerily, my current no 1 on the holiday wish list (apart from Bigbury on Sea, of course!) is a cruise around the Norwegian fijords (thinking of Slartiblartfast and his award ) Has anyone done that? How was it?
patsylabrador
I've had a strange urge to visit Ironbridge over in the West Country. Anyone know it and is it worth visiting? Soapdragon, if you get to the fiords look out for the BASE jumpers off the cliffs. My ES used to jump and he said the cruise ship passengers enjoyed the spectacle. I've been watching Mary Beard's Roman series on iplayer and am in the process of encouraging OH to go to Rome next February. I wouldn't want to do it in the summer, I hate hot heat and crowds but the winter months might be OK - what do you think? This is a sequence of shots of ES BASE- jumping off a Norwegian Ffiord. I'm quite glad he doesn't do this anymore.
soapdragon
Wow! Looks totally amazing but, as long as choc digestives exist, I will resist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As excuses go...its weak but I'm sticking to it! All power to those who wish to go for it, tho!

Grandmashazzie
I did a cruise around Norwegian fjords 2 years ago. Very relaxing and very beautiful. You get to cover a good area which I think by car would take some time.We didn't research it particularly before we went and one of the trips was to a glacier and sadly we didn't have warm clothes and shoes.
