Ham6506
The girls are always up way before me and jump out of my Cube as soon as I open the door. I have a 2 metre Omlet run with the cube and have no concerns regarding foxes. Should I leave the Cube door open at night so they can come and go as they please? Cat tails
You mean the run door? If you are on mainland England, how can you be sure there will be no foxes? Remember if they can get out, other things can get in. Foxes are not the only preditors you need to be wary off.
chooksRCute
Hi Ham6506 I've only been a chook carer for the past year but have left the cube door open for most of that time. They can get up anytime & start scratching about or feed. They are as safe as possible in the run, & I'll let them out to free range when I'm around to supervise...they're very happy, choosing to sleep half hanging out the door even in mid winter! I do use a clear waterproof cover which keeps out the rain & some of the drafts.
mullethunter
I have a Cube(formerly an Eglu Go) attached to a WIR and haven't closed the Eglu door for over a year, apart from one very cold night during the winter (and tbh that was probably unnecessary). I prefer for the girls to be able to get up when they want, which at this time of year is long before me!
Ain't Nobody Here
I only close my eglu door during the summer so they don't get up at 4.30 or 5 and start squawking!

kopperdrake
We shut the doors, but I wouldn't be worried about leaving it open if the run door is closed, personally. I imagine on some summer nights it's probably a blessing to have a fresh breeze blowing through! We left ours open the other day by mistake and were woken at 4am when His Highness, Colin the Cock, decided his girls and the world should wake up! Ham6506
Thanks very much for your replies. I left the Cube door open last night and they were fine so will be leaving it open from now on. I keep the run door close apart from when I'm around to let them free range which is becoming more frequent as I just love sitting in the garden with them. Thanks
