Gumtree

Recommended Posts

As we still have a lot of good stuff to get rid of here since moving, I've been trying the local facebook selling pages with a good degree of success. However, probably due to the time of year, good stuff isn't shifting so I've had a go on Gumtree.

Managed to sell mum's old knitting machine very quickly, after it hung around on various local facebook selling pages without a sniff of interest for weeks, so I thought I had cracked it. Next up, timewasters not turning up and others expecting me to wrap and courier two rolls of twin and earth cable across the country for them! Think I might have the wrong end of the stick but I assumed gumtree was very much local and you contacted the person and then collected said item at an agreed time.

Is it me? Does anyone have a good success rate selling on Gumtree?

My experience mirrors yours. Years ago I sold a table and chairs very easily with no hassle.

I am currently selling some low priced items on there. They are listed on gumtree Cambridge. I am aware that the actual place I live has a namesake near Cardiff so I have put in bold letters that I live in Cambridgeshire. Anyway had a number of questions from a guy and replied to each, he then told me that he would collect the item the next day for x price (not an offer -I was being told) as he lived in Cardiff. Why can't people read the listing?????

I use Gumtree quite a lot for both buying and selling....yes, its supposed to be local and you can post a map, which is helpful if buying. However, you can 'search' variously by postcode (which is the one I use) county or England etc.

A few years ago I was selling something and had a response from someone in Edinburgh (we are Oxford!) and was a bit surprised but she explained that she was happy to Paypal me and pay postage and packing as this was the only one she could find in the country and wanted it for her daughter's birthday!
