The Dogmother
Hmmm, the new Freegle interface seems to be causing problems it has taken to listing old, cancelled requests every day, presumably when they have a slow news day. I just had a rather rude message from one user, irate that he had seen the same, old and cancelled, request from me day after day. I have messaged him back to let him know that: A) He was very rude B) That those requests were cancelled long ago and C) That if he continues to be rude I shall report him to the board admin Why not just either ignore the problem or report it to the admin himself? Olly
How rude. And unnecessary. I've had problems with Freegle lately - keep trying to list a bookcase to give away, it says it's been posted and then the post never appears. I'm so fed up with it as I am having problems logging in anywhere other than through my phone, I'm going to just put it on Facebook instead I think. Freegle/Freecycle is a great idea but the reality doesn't always match up.
The Dogmother
I have only found glitches since they updated the interface - it's pants.
Cinnamon
Hmmm.................you should try unsubscribing from emails or leaving a group - its near on impossible, & I am still getting daily emails, despite trying loads of times & contacting admin. I have had to report them as Spam now. By far them most difficult thing I have had to deal with since moving abroad!
AndyRoo
I've never heard of Freegle, but I may have to have a look. I love getting old bits of furniture as I up-cycle them. The plan for this place is to buy a few choice bits of furniture and then do them up all shabby-chic.
The Dogmother
I find it great for getting rid of stuff, which I no longer want, isn't worth selling on ebay, but is still useful. I've found a few things on there too, and made a couple of friends in the process!
AndyRoo
I'll have to check it out. I have my own little moan about Freecycle now: I enquired about a sideboard. which I was told was available and I could come and collect; I asked if I could come and pick it up, where and what time etc. I didn't hear back for 20 minutes or so, and then got an email saying "Someone who asked about it the other day has just shown up unexpectedly and taken it, so it has gone." I completely understand the whole principle of first come, first serve - but why tell me it's available and I can come and collect if you were just going to give it to someone else in the first place? Cinnamon
Freecycle is the same as Freegle - they changed the name a while back
soapdragon
I tried using this a couple of times but greedy, grasping and downright rude people put me off for good! Even when people are getting something for nothing (so rare in this world anyway ) they want it delivered free or they want to come and collect in three weeks when they are back from holidays so will I please keep it for them? Or they just don't come on the arranged day and time then get cross when you have given it to the next person to ask on the assumption that a no show and no contact is an 'I've changed my mind' but couldn't be bothered to let you know when actually its just bad manners!! Re reading this I think you can gather its all made me more than a bit cross Maybe I have just been unlucky or am a 'numpty magnet' The concept is great but its such a shame that its so often badly abused
AndyRoo
Maybe this is part of my problem: I am an oddly literal person, and I expect people to keep their word!
The Dogmother
This one took my breath away: OH was getting rid of 2 cane chairs and a coffee table; I listed them on Freegle with photos and location. Had a couple of no shows, and now.... 3 weeks after I listed them, I had a message from a woman who wanted them, I replied and asked if she could collect this weekend, reminded her of the location and also that a large car or van would be necessary. ... wait for it ... ... She doesn't have a car, and the location is too far for her to carry them; she hadn't realised where they are good grief, how do these people get dressed and out of the house each day? soapdragon
Clearly you are supposed to offer to deliver them for her at a time of her choosing totally free of charge
The Dogmother
Exactly!!! OH was all for being kind and helping out, but I have met her ilk on Freegle before
