GQsm
Hi, we have had a Whitestar since last Jul. She has laid every day since the day we got her, bar 4 days in Summer when we had some issues. From Oct onwards I don't think she has missed a single day. I expected her to slow down with the short days and cold but she hasn't skipped a beat. Our Black Rock is laying around 5 a week at the minute which is what I thought would count as fairly prolific for this time of year. Is it common for some hens to lay everyday even in winter? Thanks. Cat tails
Hens often lay during their first winter. My New Hampshires did too. Second winter they took a break.
sjp
White stars been a leghorn based hybrid are supposed to be good winter layers in their first winter at least this winter has been a good winter for eggs in parts of the UK due to the nice bright days we had early in the season
Blackrocksrock
My White Amber laid almost every day for the 2 years we had her and then she burnt herself out I think. The two normal brown hens we have have also laid almost every day over winter - but they are young too - wish they had had a break and a moult as would be better for them. AndyRoo
Our White Star girl has barely missed a day since we've had her (about 5 months).
