quickcluck
Hi guys. The time has come for new glasses. I've been quoted just under £500 for varifocals from boots. I can get the exact same frames and lenses online for £330..... Has anyone done this successfully? Thanks K
Ursula123
I used glasses direct online, they will send you frames for a free home trial. I have two pairs and I am going to order some prescription sunglasses with them tomorrow ready for the sun. Excellent customer service and I highly recommend. soapdragon
Are these the people based in Chalgrove, Oxfordshire?
Daphne
OH has used Cillary Blue for several years, not varifocals tho, just plain lenses or sunglasses, including some complicated cycling glasses. He swears by them, they offer excellent and cheap reglazing, which has meant his expensive daily frames have been reused for years and years. You put your scrip into the online form ,get a quote, they send you a box with postage prepaid, send off the glasses, few days later you get the new pair
Olly
I've never bought online, but my concern with varifocals would be that they need very careful measurement to make sure the 'vari' bit is in the right place in relation to your eyeline etc - my optician spends ages checking this. I don't know how that would work with an online service?
Ursula123
Glasses Direct are in Wiltshire Soapdragon. Also my glasses are just for distance and not varifocals, I am not sure how they would do the meausements needed.
soapdragon
I had heard that there was a company based just up the road from us that did mail order glasses but clearly not this one! As others have said, measurements are vital when 'fitting' varifocals but I would imaging that 'ordinary' glasses would be fine by mail and obviously cheaper bough this way! yvonne
OH bought varifocals online and was very disappointed with them and ended up buying some at a physical optician as well doubtless due to the lack of proper measurement, but single vision ones may well be worth a try. Cinnamon
Reading glasses or specs of any sort are horrendously expensive here in France. I am going to try Cillary Blue & get a couple of pairs that have my old lenses in reglazed...they send all over the world
