soapdragon
Can't seem to find the old Kefir thread so am re inventing the wheel! I have just seen something on another Kefir website that suggests that you shouldn't wash your fermenting jar, sieve, spoon etc between batches Eugggh! Recipie for something unpleasant, surely? Mine is still going strong - I prefer to leave it 2 days then strain and 'fridge for a day as it thickens up to Greek Yog consistency. I'm not keen on it as a milky drink. I'm fretting about 'fridging it for a week over May half term when we go away but guess it will just have to take its's chances. How long has anyone left theirs? Mother has somehow managed to keep hers on the go in spite of using soya milk - she is virtually vegan.
Grandmashazzie
I think did it say on ordering site something about freezing grains. Mine is going well. I had restarted thread mentioning the 100 years younger show putting fermented cottage cheese on their face as an exfoliator and I wondered could you use kefir instead. The Dogmother
I have successfully frozen grains while I was away. In fact, when they get to over a teaspoon, I either give the extra to the animals or freeze it. They are in little frozen balls in a Tupperware container, so I can use small amounts if necessary. Egluntyne
You can definitely freeze the grains, but it takes a few days to get them back up to speed.
soapdragon
That's useful to know....I'd assume that the freezing would kill the poor little things
The Dogmother
Mine weer fine, I defrosted and popped them straight into some milk, the first batch was a bit thin, but after that they worked just fine.
