Tony
Typical! Two days into my holiday and my Son phones and informs me of my first egg. Second day, there's three eggs, third day another two etc. etc. There's me, 350 miles down south, basking in 85 degree sunshine, eating scones, raspberry jam, clotted cream and surfing in Cornwall and they're up North egg dancing without me! The youth of today just don't know they've got it made
Hen Watch
Congrats on first eggs. Hope your son is saving them all up for your return so you can make an enormous omlet.......or is your son existing on a diet of boiled eggs whilst you are away!! Tony
Congrats on first eggs. Hope your son is saving them all up for your return so you can make an enormous omlet.......or is your son existing on a diet of boilded eggs whilst you are away!! Well, I would have made an omelet or egg on toast but my Son being a chef made some fancy French sounding what-not for him and his girl. And no, he didn't save me a single one. Can't really complain though as they did a great job looking after all my animals while I was away. I'm home now though and my Tika laid me one this afternoon. I noticed only three were out of the run and she was sitting in the nest box. So I made myself a cuppa, sat next to the eglu and waited an hour or so till she came out. It was still hot and damp when I picked it up.
Egluntyne
Have it soft boiled with soldiers.....best food in the world. What a pity you had to endure all that sun, sea, surf, sand and scones and miss the excitement at home.
Tony
What a pity you had to endure all that sun, sea, surf, sand and scones and miss the excitement at home. I know, it was terrible. However I didn't entirely miss the dance routine. I was awoken first thing this morning by by wife dancing around the bedroom with cupped hands shouting "I got one, I got one" which was quite a sight. buffie
Tony this made me smile, wait until you have an egg laid in your hand. I sit and open the eggport and as they rise (they do this just before they lay) I pop my hand under and there it is in my hand, lovely and a precious experience. Done it will all our girls and will do it with the new ones soon BBx
Ziggy
Was just thinking... an egg dance on a surf board might have been a rather original way to mark the occasion.... Also wondering what neighbours must think... all over the country there must be puzzled neighbours wondering what the sudden shrieking/shouting/joy yelling is in the garden next door... my daughter certainly made so much noise when she found her first egg that she had me literally charging into the garden in a panic thinking something bad had happened... just to find her jumping up and down stringing 'mama-there's-an-egg-mama-there's-an-egg-mama-there's-an-egg' in such frantic way I thought she was about to faint... Just so long as it is an egg she's rising for Lacy was in the nest this afternoon clucking and as she's my 6yr old sons bird I called him to watch. Well, she had laid the most perfect brown egg that my son retrieved from under her. How do you convince a 6 year old that he can't really keep it in his bedroom so that it doesn't get accidentally eaten? Anyway, he's gone to stay with my eldest daughter for the night and he's taken it with him in a box for his breakfast in the morning. I've always loved birds of all descriptions and I can and do sit watching my girls for hours. Seeing the joy and fascination on young children's faces enhances that experience infinitely. Now there's a though, Olympic surfboard pancake tossing
