beckyfitz
I know there are lots of topics about first eggs & soft-shelled eggs, but if someone could just reassure me on this one I'd be very grateful. We've had our girls about a month now, they've been growing & their combs getting larger. I was away the weekend & hubby was looking after them, he said yesterday morning there were two things looking like 'deflated balloons' in their nesting box. I told him to clear it straight away so I didn't see them. This morning there was nothing. From reading your posts it sounds like soft shelled eggs. Is this common for first eggs or should we be concerned? Many thanks, Becky XX
xChicken04x
Awwwww, bless them! I think this was their first attempt of an egg, some eggs are soft shelled as they begin to lay so dont worry. Just make sure they are getting mixed poultry grit in there diet. Hopfully the next one is more edible! xx
AJuff
Are you adding grit or oyster shells to their pellets? I mix them in and so far so good, no soft shells yet.
moochoo
One of my girls laid a few soft shelled and no shelled eggs at first despite adding grit and crushed egg shells to their feed. Don't worry she's now laying good hard eggs practically every day.
