Water in eglu lid cavity

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

When I removed the eglu lid today, I could hear water sloshing around inside the cavity. I examined it very closely but could not find any damage or holes that would let in water, so draining it wasn't possible either. I have had the eglu for only eight weeks.

I am concerned that if the lid continues to take in more water, it could freeze in the winter and crack from the pressure of the ice.

I intend to contact Omlet about this, and I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem?

There is a small hole on the inside of the 'shell' of the eglu. I remember Simon saying something about it. Its to do with the moulding process. I didn't take too much notice as i was busy concentrating on something else at the time

I noticed water was sloshing inside mine, when i gave it a blast with the pressure washer last time i cleaned it.

The case is hollow and very flexible, i wouldn't worry about the water freezing inside. I wouldn't have thought that the 'shell' would crack.

If you do contact Omlet HQ please could you tell us what they said?

Thanks :D

I have sent an email to Omlet. Awaiting their reply!

Bye for now.

I've had a problem with buoyancy tanks in dinghies. If you get water in them you need two holes to get it out - one for the water to come out and one to let the air in (so that the water can actually come out).

So it might be the same. If there is one hole, if water gets forced in, it won't come out unless you drill another, small, hole to let the air in.

Its something to do with vacuums and physicsy sort of stuff. I remember it from O level days.

I've got it written down on a slate somewhere I think ...

Richard did u find your slate?,

:lol::lol::lol:

I think I left it in the classroom.

Made me smile. When I was at school we were punished if we scratched our names in the desk lids. But in the entrance hall, outside the headmaster's office, there were the desk lids with names of a couple of well known, famous people, who had been to the school, hung up!

I wonder if they got detention or lines at the time.

Omlet have not bothered to reply to my email sent 6 weeks ago, nor have they replied to my message on their answer phone about this problem, so I am really cheesed off.

I have had a bad week generally complaining on the phone to people who couldn't give a toss about the care or service they give !

Anyway, enough moaning As the problem of water in the lid is getting no worse, I have decided to follow Christianl's advice and do nothing.

Drilling holes might let in slugs etc., creating a "foul" problem in the future.

No slugs in there I promise. They are a really tiny pair of holes (one to let the air in as the water drains out, to stop a vacuum) and are in the part that sits against the main eglu (I wish I could draw you a diagram. I am pants at explaining things!). I had been wondering if you had received a reply

funnily enough, I was just planning to post on this topic. it seems that when you wash the eglu, the water goes in thru that hole in the middle of the inside of the lid; but then you cant empty it out becoz the water all runs to the bottom.

my problem is that I am now finding it too heavy to lug about!! so will try the hole drilling thing next w/e. and also the same with the porthole door.
