foreveryoung
would an 8 week old chick manage to get in and out of a cube?
feemcg
Knowing the 8 week old chicks I've had they'd probably fly into it . I think they would be ok - might need to be shown a few times.

bronze
Do I understand you're putting an 8 week old in with fully grown? I would say that was too soon and it would get hopelessly bullied
Jools
Agreed Bronze. Unless you are exceptionally lucky, your 8 week old chick is in for a very hard time
chelsea
Yeah, I would hold off for a bit. I have 13 week old cochins, although they free range with the big girls, when confined they get really pecked by the bigguns, so I have seperated them when they are enclosed and they dont sleep together either. (I bought another eglu ) Im going to wait till 20 weeks.
The Pearsons
One of my two week old chicks is an escape artist and keeps getting in with the big hens. I don't think any of them have read the advice about keeping seperate as the big girls brood them just as their foster Mum does....... I'm still not happy about it though and keep putting the chick back into the maternity wing and blocking up the escape route. Chick just digs another though....... Maybe I'll move the materity wing and try to get it on more solid ground. Helen in Hume
