Hen or Cockerel ?

Recommended Posts

Far too early to tell for sure, but I seem to remember the female's wings develop earlier than the males and the tail feathers of the males develop earlier than the females? The comb development of the males is greater than the females obviously, but early on that's not always a reliable indicator. Neither is who is fighting who.

My favourite game!!! I’ve never had a barnevelder but have had Wyandotte chicks as well as campines and pekins. To me it looks like you have one female (on the right in the middle photo and at the back in the bottom photo) and two males. Could be completely wrong though!!

I concur

Would be easier if we knew their age though

The chicks are 4 weeks old.

I think the chick with the white chest is a male and the other two are female. The one with the white chest is not feathering as quick, has shorter wings and is more upright. The other two are feathering the same and have the double barring on the feathers.

Still interested in what you all think

Thanks
