Henhathnofury
I have two cats of my own but the little darlings are always quite gentle and respectful (actually terrified) of our new hens. But there is a nasty tomcat with a low slung tum who patrols the area - I was worried about him attacking the chooks. I was in my office writing (I'm a writer so it's where I should be) and I heard a commotion. Rushed downstairs in time to see a cat emerging from the bushes with a long-necked angry flapping ginger flash of chicken in pursuit. I have not seen this cat since, even walking past my gate. Since then, she has seen off squirrels, crows and pigeons. There is more fire in hens than I first realised!
Christian
Yes, they can be feisty little things! Ours recently 'attacked' a pheasant that had wandered into their run, looking for a free meal! Blood bath! 2 pinned it downed whilst the other pecked. Quite shocking to watch!

Ain't Nobody Here
One of my girls doesn't stand any nonsense from my dog (she goes for him if he comes too close) and now he's really scared of her. He wouldn't even come into the house the other day 'cos we had her in the kitchen!

Olly
Since getting my girls, and learning more about the wonderful world of hen-keeping, I have wondered sometimes why the word 'chicken' has come to be applied to someone who is cowardly. Mine don't seem to be scared of much!
Ziggy
Maybe all of us omleteers should have our own expressions... use 'chicken' to denote aggressive brave behaviour and maybe 'feline' to describe lazy cowardly behaviour... who knows, in time it might spread and become common english... Though might upset a few people at first when we call them chickens...
