Chicken on a mission
I go by weight, BMI (20-25), body fat ratio (under 33), waist/hip ratio (less than 0.8 ). Once I am comfortably within the normal zone on all of those morning and night then I know I have reached my target. I don't even want to be bottom end of healthy. The amount of people that told me I didn't need to lose anymore at 13 stone I have just crept into normal on all but the waist/hip ratio 1 3/4 stone on but in serious dange of falling out again as I only have to gain 1lb

Mel (& Paul)
But isnt BMI the thing that you calculate by multiplying your weight by your height or something similar and sportsman like the rugby player Laurance Dellagio (spelling?) is classed as clinically obese because of his BMI

Lesley
Well done Thalia - you really are an inspiration Keep up the good work, and keep telling us how it is going. I've been thinking about weight today as it is our wedding anniversary and I know exactly how much I weighed this time 9 years ago - 3 stone less than I do today Mostly due to inactivity after damaging my knee - but now I must stop eating all that chocolate and let the benefits of more excersize, gained by moving to the farm, start to show. Chicken on a mission
I now know my goal weight at last! I need to lose another 9 lbs and even if I don’t do it in the next 3 weigh ins I’ll have to keep on going until I do. I thrive on KNOWING what I have left to do so I have a specific target. I don’t want to get this far only to stick on my glycogen and be disappointed with my weight loss which would write off all the hard work of the last 4 months. Onwards and downwards till goal and no resting until I do. I decided to go into town today (on my bike) minus my daughter to test my decision that I am roughly at goal and I tried on a load of size 12 bottoms in various shops just to see whether my choice of goal weight will see me comfortably in size 12’s. I also tried on a load of fitted tops to assess my size in tops too. I am now comfortably a size 12 bottom in the wide leg style trousers and a size 14 top half. I haven’t got anymore I can lose on my top half to reduce my clothes size. Because I have no chest I know that my size is dictated by my broad back and shoulders (I should have been a swimmer), my back and shoulders are as slim as they are ever going to be. As for the bottom half of my body, I have weight to lose off my waist, tummy, legs and bum but the weight isn’t coming from there it is coming off my skinny bits so if I continue to lose much more then I will go even further out off proportion. The rest has to be down to hard work though exercise. I'm due to do some more progress shots in another 9 days and I am looking forward to seeing these so that I can start targeting areas through specific challenging exercises. Chicken on a mission
I decided a treat was in order so I have booked a riding lesson for Friday morning. I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait! Not being able physically to do the things I wanted to on a horse was a big factor at making me unhappy enough to do something about my weight. Doing the flying lesson isn’t as important to me as going riding again as I am desperate to get back on a horse again! I told the stables that I didn’t need to go back on Malcolm again because I was 17 ½ stone when I last went so at a thickset 17h2 he was only horse I could ride there. Now I am 6 ½ stone lighter and can ride most of them. It would be quite nice to go back on Malcolm again, even though he was a lazy git and made me work hard, just to show up the difference between what I was able to do and what I am able to do now…at least there had better be a difference! Chicken on a mission
That's great Onwards and downwards, eyes on the prize The riding went so well. I was on Malcolm and he is still very lazy. I don't like him very much because he litterally has to be kicked. Also I don't like having to use a crop at the best of times and the amount of taps he needed today just didn't make me comfortable. My riding instructor didn't recognise me which was good. The lesson went much better this time round, even on only 500 calories I had bags of energy compared to last time. Previous lessons were just walk and trot because I was so useless, this time I worked without stirups and cantered - or rather Malcome did! My instructor said she will put me on another mount next time and I have such a wide selection available to me. The trouble has been that I have been having to work so hard to keep Malcolm going that I have had much left over to try and concentrate on my performance and improving my seat. I'm really looking forward to next week, I get a new horse to ride and Louise has said given the difference in my performance today she will be working me much harder. Can't wait
Paola
How fab All this talk of riding has got my itching to get back in the saddle
Mel (& Paul)
That's one of the reasons for me wanting to lose weight - we have been learning to ride for just under a year now, and I feel SO sorry for the horses that have to lug me around!!! I also find that now I am jumping the body protector seems to work in conjuction with my jodpurs to give me a HUGE muffin top So I am determined to loose more weight! We went for a ride out on Friday evening - about 2 1/2 hours mixture of walking, trotting, cantering, and when my pony saw a dead rabbit a bit of galloping I was 11 stone 9 last week and weighed myself this morning - 11 2!!!! I know that it was first thing so the true weight might only be 11 5 - but I am dead chuffed as I have not been on a "diet" just cutting back on the alcohol, having a jacket potato (no cheese) instead of chips, not eating all the biscuits and cakes at work and so on. did drink rather a lot last night but we were discussing minky - that's my excues and I am sticking to it!!!!! Thalia do you know how many callories riding uses up? I have a calorie book that lists all the calories food contains but I want to get an idea of how many I use up during various activities - can you point me in the right diretion? Chicken on a mission
I am itching to get back in the saddle tomorrow. I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight I'll update you tomorrow. The 5th Friday in my pre-booked block of 5 lessons falls on the Friday before half term which hubby and Esme both happen to have off so they are going to come and watch. Have broached the subject of getting Esme a 1/2 hour booked for the same time I bought a decent pair of scales and have been weighing myself in the morning in the nude and ah-hem...empty! This morning I was 10st 10.6lbs although 'officially' in my evening weigh in I was 11st 2lbs so that is was my 71lbs loss in my signature is based on. This Tuesday sees the start of my new phase on this mad diet I start learning to eat again. Protein only for the first couple of days and some salad items on the 3rd day. The biggest part of all this begins on the 8th week when we start introducing trigger foods. The programme calls for every little thought and feeling regarding what you are eating to be recorded and analysed so this is where the hard work starts. I should be through this phase on 12th December and them its just getting on with the rest of my life My lifestyle has changed so much. I regularly ride now, we walk to school every day, we have a tag-a-long bike which is used at least twice a week as the car is left behind for journeys of less than 2 miles unless we are in a rush or then need to go onto somewhere else and lastly I have no ebarrassment about running skipping or dancing with my daughter in public as long as we have fun Life is good

Chicken on a mission
I was on a 16h2 Hanovarian cross today Still big but not as big as Malcolm. Next week I am going to be riding a 15h 2 New Forest/Thoroughbred cross I have asked if I can help with the mucking out and tack cleaning etc when Esme starts school full time at the end of October. I want to learn as much as I can with a view to getting a share in a horse when I have enough experience I'm looking forward to eating again on Tuesday and am very proud of myself because I managed to stay off the scales this morning I dropped into my daughters old nursery school this morning and have arranged to go in there on Monday to finish off the library and train up the next person to manage it.
