Tweety
I have moved my Cube from the grass onto concrete + Hemcore for the winter, but the Hemcore was absolutely soaked this morning so I need to waterproof the run as much as possible. I have seen the wonderful things that people have done with shower curtains on the Eglu run, and just wondered if anyone has yet done the same with the Cube run? Or has anyone come up with a better idea? Have been trying to work out the best option and would be very grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance. MaggieMcHen
I am using carpet protector on my cube. it isn't as cheap as shower curtain but it keeps the girls dry doesn't fall off and looks the part. The stuff I'm talking about is clear with plastic 'spikes' on th back to hold it in place on the carpet. It is secured with bungies. Two pieces cover the part that is not covered by the green shade supplied. It gives the run cover but I have not taken it to the ground as I think the girls should experience 'the weather' both good and bad. I don't want them to be in an 'indoor' run. If I did I think it would be better to build one of the fully enclosed affairs that others have invested in. I am going to add 'anti scatter' boards around the bottom though. Tweety
Thanks for that Maggie McHen - it sounds like a really good idea.
CatsCube
I just bought 2 clear tarps from B&Q for mine, thry are quiet thin so thought I would double up, they were about 33 each, will probably use mini bulldog clips to attach them, or I might use some gaffa tape, as I intend for it to be a permanent shelter all year round. I was thinking maybe instead to use a solid perspex roof, as you cen get sheets of this from DIY stores too and attach it wil cable ties. Rhapsody
Sorry to be a party pooper but IMHO Cubes are very expensive and the run should come with weatherproofing in a stylish design to match the cube colour. It is beyond me why Omlet read about people draping their gorgeous products in cheap shower curtains and other Heath Robinson creations and do not address it! Grumble Grumble *I am more waspish than usual due to virus bestowed on me by darling son*

Guest
i mailed james about a month ago now to suggest a suggestion box and to also suggest the shop stock hemcore, he read my mail (read receipt) but (for whatever reason) I got no response. Here's his mail address if someone else wants to make a suggestion to him james@omlet.co.uk
Tweety
I agree, although even the winter shade for the Eglu doesn't really address the problem of heavy rain, as I discovered yesterday. I suppose that some might argue that Chickens are outdoor creatures and that we shouldn't be trying to protect them from the elements, and there is some truth in that. My sister in law has had chooks for years, and I know she would think I am mad to even consider trying to waterproof the run. However, life is much easier when dealing with dry hemcore/poo/whatever rather than the soaked variety! A trip to B & Q looks likely. Thanks for all your help.
craftyhunnypie
Hmmm - mine have got a shower curtain over the top of the cube run. I agree it's not very pretty, but does the job. I definitely need some anti scatter boards round the run of the cube as mine love digging. The mk2 eglu has a childs gazebo over it - looks a bit , but I think it's a better idea & the girls like it. They are out in all weathers, with that over them. I think the sunshade supplied with the cube is a bit pathetic really. I'm not as pleased now with the cube as I originally was - I just prefer the eglu, but the girls love their cube, so I'm sticking with it for now. Maybe in the future when I've got more space - I'll replace it with a few more eglus - I'm going for a rainbow like Lesley! Emma.x
