CockADoodleDoo
I have just got my new maran, she is called Spark she is georgeous i got her from Perfect Poultry in Guilford. the man has pretty much every pure breed i can think of and quite a few hybirds. he is a really nice man too and knows everyting about chickens I told him i kept them in an eglu and he thought they were ok but he said that chickens like any bird need to roost at night and the roosting bars in an eglu were to close together and not high enough for them to properly perch. which i believe is true becasue when i go out in to shut them away at night i look in through the port and they are ussaly sitting across the bars sideways not perching on one. So this made me think and i have adapted the eglu roosting bars to make a bar higher off the ground. my girls love it and squash up together on it at night and they actually look like proper birds perching at night. will post some pics of the bars and my new girl Spark soon and will put up details on how to build the roosting bars if anyone is intrested. Laura & CTB
Congratulations the new addition! Would love to see photos of Spark and the new perch. I only have the two girls and they both insist on sleeping in the nest box - none of this roosting lark
Egluntyne
Mine use the roosting bars...although a couple do start off in the nesting box.
