hpops
Hi I have three chicks at 13 weeks that I need to introduce to my established girls - they keep in their own little groups when they are out free ranging and don't have much to do with each other. They have the occasional peck when I throw treats out - I have tried to introduce them in this way several times. I tried to put them all in the eglu this morning and the two big girls just chased the three chicks around the eglu pecking them. I whisked them back out to safety and now don't know what to do!!!! Do I just have to let the pecking happen? How much is too much, it looks pretty vicious to me! How do I know if they are being hurt? The chicks don't seem to stick up for themselves at all. I can't bear to see them get hurt! Is it best to introduce them at roosting time??? I don't know what to do for the best! Thanks
Egluntyne
There is a whole Sticky on the subject HERE. If you read it through you will be able to pick up some tips and advice, from page 2 onwards. Good luck.
Jools
To be honest, I think your chicks are too young to be introduced to the adults. In my limited experience, it's much better to wait until they are at POL when they will be more able to stand up for themselves. If you can keep them all in view of eachother in the meantime, it will certainly help when you put them all in together.
