heads up on bark chippings, don't use them!

Now,

It's a bit too soon to say for definite but....

I think some of the active ingredients in red mite powder might also appear in Citronella Oil. Given the ingredients list on the powder it would not surprise me. There seem to be a general consensus that, whilst citronella is not an insect repellent it may confuse the olfactory systems rendering it less likely that a would-be pest will find a new host.

Interesting?!

PS I have been to bed honest

Somewhat of an apology from me for my abruptish post yesterday.. tough day in the office and all that...

There is a huge amount of great information and goodwill on this site, and I hope I havent removed the portion assigned to me in one fell post.

What I have noticed from researching old threads etc is how often there is contradictory advice meted out, often followed with a grovelling apology from the incorrect advisee, quoting inexperience, wanting to jump to help etc etc..

It was posted with the best intentions but not in the most effective manner, hope all forgive my ill natured outburst..

PS how many new words have I created/made up in this post ;)

I could never smell it either Clare :? . Mine are on Easi-bed at the moment as the shop didn't have Hemcore - it's finer with a nice fresh woody smell. I like it so far - will see how long it lasts between changes, in comparison to Hemcore. The girls seem to enjoy dustbathing in it anyway

It's always baffled me about the (alleged) citronella in Hemcore - they now don't mention it on the package, and I could never smell it anyway

My package of Hemcore has it printed in big letters that it has been citronella treated. The package also informs me that the Royal family use the product,

so if it's good enough for Her Maj. its good enough for me :):)

The bark chippings I used to use smelled horrid when I first tipped them out,

the smell did fade after a while, they were also hailed as 'moisture retaining' which is NOT what you want in a chicken run.:roll: So I am a Hemcore convert :)

I think it's a process we all go through Tessa. Hemcore is brilliant in my bunny hutch too.

Not at all Matthew, there is always room for a lively debate on this forum - provided it's expressed politely, which I think your post was.

While there are often strongly-held opposing views on subjects, I think there's a lot of loyalty amongst Omleteers - criticise one, even in general terms, and you criticise us all!

I think your post was the equivalent of a fox inspecting the Eglu, the chickens that were fighting over a cherry tomato two minutes ago are suddenly all huddled together and united!

Brilliant :lol::lol::lol:

and exactly right!

We're just as much of a flock as they are ...

Now, who is top of the pecking order?

I know where I stand - I'm Ronnie Corbett in the 'I look up to him' sketch!
