Martin B
Hi, Our school is getting chickens! Sounds great doesn't it? Well it's not great for the male chicks as they are going to be gassed and then incinerated on Friday. None of them have hatched all the way out yet but they are pipped and the chicks can be heard. I am completly against these males being disposed of in this way. I would like to give them a chance of life somewhat. I am unable to keep roosters here but I don't mind raising them on until 6 weeks old when they would be ready to go outside. I have spoke to my science teacher ( who is also my old tutor) in depth and she would rather me take them than them be disposed of, she knows that I can look after the chicks as obviously she knows me well. I need to find some willing homes for them by 7.00am tomorrow or the gassing and incineration process will continue. If you think you could help me out then please give me a nod. I am so pleased that the school will have chickens and there is going to be a chicken club with the people looking after the chickens. Please let me know if you can help, Martin
Goosey Lucy
Wish I could help Martin as we're only up the road in Coventry. I'm sure someone will come along soon but good luck with what you are trying to do.
Mrs Frugal
The majority of the people on this forum can't take cockerels even if they wanted to because they are living in an urban environment. Surely you'd be better off posting on another forum such as Practical Poultry?
Guest
that's sad but I guess that's life too. If you don't get homes for them Martin all you can do is see to it that they are despatched humanely. I wish I could offer you a suggestion, what about contacting local breeders and asking them if they want any? Local petting Zoos/children's farms? I really don't know how to help but if I didn't live in a town house on an estate, I'd take one.
Guest
Surely you'd be better off posting on another forum such as Practical Poultry? somebody might be able to help and it was worth him trying, there are a variety of chicken keepers that post here. Good luck Martin, I hope somebody comes up wuth some suggestions, in the meantime I'm googling to see if I can come up with something but do try Pratical Poultry too, do you have a sign on for that forum? If not, let me know and I'll post on your behalf as it takes 24 hours at least to get set up on there.

I did say "the majority" and not "all". It was a suggestion. We don't have much luck at all rehoming cockerels on here so have suggested that people needing to find new homes should try other forums. I'm sure Martin will have far more interest on some of the bigger poultry keeping forums than he will here.
Guest
dunno if this helps or makes you more depressed! http://kelseyinfo.co.uk/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1179654545 anyway, let me know if you want me to put a post in there on your behalf Martin. Be careful they don't go to anyone dodgy who might rear them for cock fighting but I'm sure you wouldn't, you seem very sensible and caring. What a horrible dilemma, I wish you the best of luck. Guest
http://www.birdtrader.co.uk/birds/BT06830 with it being a mobile number I'd be very careful but might be worth a try? EDIT!!!! Martin, it's not a mobile number, it's a premium rate number, might be worth posting your own ad on that site or get the school to ring the number? Egluntyne
It isn't the best time of year to be rearing chicks. I'm surprised that your school didn't think to wait until spring. Let's hope mos tor all of the babes are girls. Sorry I can't help out.
Guest
one final thought, contact the warwickshire BHWT, they might be able to give you some suggestions, you never know!?
Mrs Frugal
As Poet has kindly made some suggestions for you, Martin, I'm going to lock this topic because we have asked that no adverts for rehoming cockerels are posted on this forum, no matter what the circumstances and have made suggestions where posters should try instead. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept cockerels which are the result of hatching experiments for rehoming on this forum as the vast majority of Eglu owners live in an urban or suburban environment and are not allowed to keep them on their premises. If you have cockerels who need rehoming, I would suggest trying another forum such as Practical Poultry Pekin Bantams Forum River Cottage as they have a larger range of members. Thank you. If anyone is able to help you, they can contact you via PM but as I've explained to you both on the forum and privately, because the majority of this forum are unable to take cockerels, this really isn't the place to ask for people to take them. I'm really sorry, Martin. I hope you find homes for them if they do turn out to be male.
