Egluntyne
But plastic housing that can be practically sterilised!! What a shame. Maybe Omlet need an agent in the Southern Hemisphere, KateA. You'd be perfect!
Olly
I bought my and adopted three chooks from a couple who were emigrating to Australia, they had considered shipping the Eglu (not the chickens!) but thought they would have trouble with the regulations. Seems daft, but they are very strict about these things. I did suggest they could start up a franchise, though!
Charlottechicken
Well, back on topic, I have £13.03 left over from Decembers budget and cannot spend any more this year, eek! Wonder how much of Januarys budget will be left at the end of the month I think I will have to print off 'the rules' and carry them with me everywhere so I don't forget Good luck anyone else doing this, we must be mad

Couperwife
have just been into town, and looked in all of the sale stuff. I picked loads of things up - and put them down again. Im a killer for magazines, so that is first "battle" for me picked 2 up in Smiths, and put them down again so im feeling very proud of myself i'll be fine when I get back to school (but I did buy some lock and locks from QVC the other day - the TSV - they were a replacement for all of the old stuff that I binned before christmas - so thats ok ) cathy x
Charlottechicken
Ooh Cathy, well done you for not buying magazines, I used to be a magazinaholic too! (I saw the lock and locks and was tempted, they look nice too ) I went into town today and looked through a few shops, but had to admit to not needing any of it so left empty handed, it was a different story in the market though I headed straight for the pound man who sells everything for 50p on a Thursday, all second hand goods. I bought a lovely cream sweatshirt with embroidered birds, bird table, bird nest etc on, a nice M&S Autograph blouse/shirt in a printed georgette, and a lovely white crinkle t shirt fabric top with a square shaped neck and longish sleeves and side splits by a company called Fullcircle (never heard of them!). So went mad with £1.50 there. I also came home with loads of fruit too, 3 mangoes for £1, a large pineapple 40p, 12 kiwi fruit for £1, 2lb satsumas 50p, bunch of 8 bananas 89p, and a large bag of small green seedless grapes for £1. I spent £1.90 on a return train ticket as it is cheaper than parking the car in town, and then saw two of the Thunderbird named Virgin trains at New Street, Gordon Tracy and one beginning with 'k' ? So my day out cost me £8.
Guest
Well done Claire You sound like you have had a good day PS I bet Dan wouldknow the name of the other train beginning with K

Charlottechicken
but.... we should agree that food isnt on the list of what not to buy. and its called "buy nothing NEW for a year" and second hand - therefore not new Sorry I just can't resist sharing my cheap foodie bargains and 2nd hand clothes bargains with everyone I'll keep to the script from now on Cathy *smacks hand* I'm off to the charity shops tomorrow, but that's the last time I mention it
Charlottechicken
How is everyone doing? One month down, only 11 to go I haven't done too badly, accidently spent £3 in Boots one day instead of asking for the points to be used (I was daydreaming at the till ). Also made two other purchases that might be construed as luxuries, but I'm not willing to negotiate on those, and they weren't available from other sources I have items selling on ebay so hopefully I can use that money towards a treat, or just add it to my savings fund I have been buying plants though, they seem to satisfy my need to 'purchase' and of course they will all produce a crop of some sort. But of course they are all from cheap shops. Now I am being really strict, it is amazing how many times I pick things up in shops but then realise I don't need them and they won't make a difference to my life. I am quite surprised I am still a 'consumer' at heart and even a committed non shopper like me still has a need to spend money occasionally. It makes the charity shops even more attractive though At the end of the month I have £58 left from my total household budget of £200 so am really pleased

Even though I don't feel able to commit to this, just reading about it has made me think a lot more about what I buy - do I really need it? I will be reading your updates with interest!
