I think I've found an excuse to get some more chickens!

Recommended Posts

Word has got round to some of the other offices in our group that I have chooks which lay gorgeous eggs. Demand is starting to outstrip supply, which sounds to me like the perfect excuse to get some more chooks (in the spring) Only trouble is that will mean even more poo to pick in the mornings :vom:

poo picking is easy if you add garlic to their food, almost no smell at all! :)

Great news about the chooks.

I dont do poo picking, I wouldnt be able to. With having a woodchip base it just disapears into the mulch. Just relace the run base every month.

Glad you posted this - I was begining to think I was the only lazy cruel owner who didn't do this.

Mine seem quite happy with this regime too (I only have 2).

Why make extra work ??

I think most of us, although I can only speak for myself, poo pick in the coop/eglu daily so that the girls aren't sleeping in their own mess.

I don't poo pick in the run itself. Every day, DH fills in any holes they've dug and gives it a quick rake over and then once a month or 3 weeks he removes the daggy hemcore/aubiose from the run and puts fresh in.

Snap. Our 12 x 8ft run is aubiose lined and we do the same as you, both with the eglus and with the run. The poo doesn't smell in the eglus, it is just the copious amounts of it!
