craftyhunnypie
Hi - thanks everyone! Thanks for the choccy bikkies - I dunked them in my cuppa! Well for the 1st time ever, the 2 'oldies' were noisy this morning before being let out. Blanche is eating & pecking round at the moment & Audrey has just come out the nest box after laying an egg, but it was thin shelled & broke - we've had her nearly 18 months & she still lays whopper eggs about 3 days a week, bless her - I wish she wouldn't as I don't want her wearing herself out. They are now sharing a little gem lettuce! Emma.x
Laura & CTB
They are now sharing a little gem lettuce! Emma.x Well that should keep them occupied for 9.5 seconds Sorry to read about Rita, we all know it has to happen sometime but it sure doesn't make it easier. craftyhunnypie
Well, we have buried Rita today along with a flower, a little note and some sweetcorn. I've got a little chicken ornament I've put on top of the Concrete flag. Hubby was sobbing as he buried her. Is it just the Omlet chooks that die young? As I know other people with hybrids that are 6 years old. One of my friends has a couple of 3 year old hybrids who are still laying regularly too. I know that Omlet chooks are friendly & lovely natured, but perhaps they have been bred so much to be friendly & sweet, that they don't live very long. It was just a thought, maybe some of you do have older Omlet chooks. I would like to know though how old most peoples Omlet chooks are. If it were warmer weather & say Spring, I wouldn't hesitate to go to Craeg Mhor Poultry & get a Warren & a Red Star. Emma.x

superjules
Sorry to hear about Rita. I think when it's a chicken's time to go there's nothing much you can do. I hope you are feeling less sad today.
