The Dogmother
Ok, so my mobile is an old Nokia (about 18 months) and very basic, but every now and then the screen shows 'SIM card rejected' and I have to switch the phone off and then on again to get it to work. I have tried taking out the SIM card and wiping it gently. Any bright ideas?
Geoid
Get a new phone.... or You should email nokia and see what they say
moochoo
My Sony Erricson does the same. It is caused by either knocking the sim card out of alignment or a dirty sim card apparently. The cure is to carry on what you have done I'm afraid. Annoying though isn't it?
The Dogmother
Thanks guys It is irritating, I haven't had the time recently to go down to the Vodafone shop in town. Not sure if they could help anyhow. Taking it out to clean is such a fag as I then have to reset the date and time

The Dogmother
Errrrr.... *goes to look at Nokia site* 1600 it says No frills, just a phone, no GPRS, no camera, no music... just calls.
Geoid
My phone displays "SIM card rejected" or "SIM card unaccepted". The SIM (subscriber identity module) card is a small card inside your phone that establishes a network connection. The SIM card is provided by your operator or service provider. In most cases, they are the best source of assistance with SIM card problems. Your phone may display a SIM card error message if: * The SIM card is out of alignment. If the phone has recently been dropped, bumped, or opened, the SIM card may need adjusting. Follow the SIM card installation instructions in your user guide. * The PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code is entered incorrectly multiple times. This can inactivate the SIM card. If inactivation appears to be permanent, contact your operator or service provider for a new SIM card. * You have recently changed service providers. In this case, either your SIM card or your phone may be configured for your previous operator and may require reconfiguring. Please contact your current operator or service provider for assistance. If none of the situations above apply and you continue to receive this error message, your SIM card may be damaged. Please contact your operator or service provider to have the SIM card tested and/or replaced.

The Dogmother
Exactly Pam! All the more complicated phones I've had have always gone wrong and needed replacing Thanks Fred - none of those seem to apply though, it can do it just sitting quietly on my desk. Methinks a trip to Vodafone is in order! Thank you all for your help.

Paola
I was going to suggest a new sim card. Having said that I have seen new Nokias for less then £15 and that is pay as you go. I do not have a contract and prob spend less then £10 a month. You would like to think that phones will last you longer then 18 months
Chicken Licken
My dad's phone does this when he sits on it with it in his pocket - if you gently bend it back the other way it works perfectly again - blooming technology!!

chickencam
My ED's phone used to do that until we took the SIM out and gave a good clean, I think hubby may have used a small amount of screen cleaner on it feeling we had nothing to lose and it was fine after that.
