Chicken Licken
could Dory's little lump be a small prolapse - is she laying? I haven't come across this but it does happen when they're egg laying gear gets pushed out with the egg. I t sohould be gently replaced. If they start pecking and fussing it can be really nasty I thin (some one else will be along in a minute). My girls peck the dog if she gets too close. Rosie is 12 and takes little notice of them except for the occasional frisk after them. My sisters younger and more boisterous Afghan rescue dog who is mostly wild is not chicken friendly in any way. They have to be kept int he run for their own protection. I would recommend keeping the dogs apart form the chickens and taking a look at the little lumpy bit. Goosey Lucy
I think the bump she is nibbling at the base of her tail feathers is the oil gland they use for cleaning/preening their feathers. If it's on her back not below her tail near her vent. Can't help with anything else tho, except maybe you could use a water pistol on Izzy whenever she starts sniffing the hens? Sorry, I'm not really a dog person, I'm sure someone else will be along soon.
Snowy
The little lump does sound like the preen gland. They nibble it then use the oil to smooth and clean their feathers. Terriers can be difficult with chickens. My westie is great with them, but typically terrier, he will run after them if they jump or flap. They will follow their instincts. But Dennis is 9 years old and I only have to tell him no and he comes straight back. He knows that the chooks are for guarding but the woodpigeon is fair game (as if ). I would be cautious with a younger dog though, unless you are very sure he won't overstep the mark. Did you order citricidal from Omlet? It is very good for sneezy chickens. chelsea
my chickens attack my MIL'S jack russell ! so i have to keep them seperate. A gradual introduction on a lead with lots of firm commands should hopefully make things easier, but as snowy says terriers are terriers and they always like small fluffy things
clunky
Thanks will try the water pistol method should be fun meantime trying to keep her seperate from chickens have just ordered Foxwatch as fox took previous chickens (RIP Henrietta Marshy Rory) so according to website it will deter cats dogs etc so in the meantime she will have to learn NO. Have ordered Citredal from Omlet but delivery is not until 11th Feb. I think it is an oil gland it is quite raised is this norma?
