The Dogmother
Rosie gets embarrassed and Phil thinks it's only a matter of time before I get punched If they say anything (usually they don't as they are too embarrassed) I just say that I was saying 'Thank you'. One day, someone, somewhere will learn good manners as a result of this and my work in this world won't have been in vain.
Couperwife
its interesting at school sometimes. if a child hold the door open for me I always say thank you (other staff dont ) and if one of the boys barges through, I always say "hmmm, so chivalry is dead with him then???" this normally sparks the conversation of "whats chivalry" and I reply "basic common curtesy and manners" usually gets a positive response and an apology so many parents arent nice to their children, so the children dont know how to be nice to others sad cathy x
The Dogmother
Sadly, that is sooo true Cathy Our school was very strict about courtesy and manners. We were also told that our school blazers (which we had to wear) made us representatives of our school, and as such, our behaviour should be exemplary both in and out of school. I think that teachers these days have their hands full enough just making sure that the little darlings turn up at school, can use a knife and fork and write their own names. I take my hat off to you Cathy. 'Manners maketh a man'
