Aylana
OH MY GOD! I have just perched over the bath with my cup of ready brek feeling more than a bit ridiculous and scrubbed it into my hair convinced that I had finally lost the plot and was going to spend the next few days with greasy porridge hair! But OH MY GOD! It does actually look like I have washed my hair! It is bouncy and shiny! Oats rock!!! Ok I'm going to go and shake my head to get the rest of the bits out now! Guest
Aylana - it's wonderful isn't it? I don't know why our Grannies hadn't told us about this little miracle! Sheila - 3 weeks, yes I can't believe it! I feel really settled now and , as everyone is finding out, we're totally safe now we know the wonder of oatmeal! Cate in NZ
You're all really inspirational, thanks all. I've just been having a quick forum catch up before I get in the shower... well it was meant to be a quick catch up when I logged on... I've just realised that it's 9am and I've just admitted to still being in my PJs Anyway my hair is overdue a wash today, and I had planned to do it, but I might just try some oatmeal instead... see if it really is as wonderful as you all say
Louise
I am on day 13 and still not felt the need for vinegar or oatmeal I am finding giving it a good brush EVERY morning is really helping things as well I used to be a nightmare for not brushing my hair as it was so frizzy the brush made it look worse but it now makes it look better I went out this morning actually pleased for the first time in 15 years with the way it looked after brushing Apart from the very ends it feel so soft too Mind you I have my parents coming to stay at easter and my mother will say something if she thinks it is looking bad I must hide the evidence as I don't want to let on yet I think it is the sort of thing my mum should try too as she has dreadful problems with her scalp Mind you she needs to wean herself of the harsh dye first she is 58 of course she has grey hairs I am 34 and I have them I keep telling her in 5 years we will look weird as there is no danger of me dying my hair and if I am grey and she isn't
Lesley
It can happen Louise - my daughter has quite a few grey hairs but I haven't got any! Both my sister's have some grey but my Mother was 70 before she had any noticeable ones.
Guest
KateA - I would say that the effects of oatmeal don't last more than 24 hours and you need to rinse as well. I do a vinegar rinse twice a week and oatmeal once in between. That seems to suit me very well. You'll have to try to find what suits your hair too, but I would think that water at least once a week is essential! Good luck, it's brave to try again! Louise
Lesley my mum is really grey under the dark blonde dye She has really dreadful problems with her scalp she uses the nutrogena medicated shampoo and still has problems Every time she says to people she is going to stop the dye they say 'oh no you will look so old' so she goes back again So what if it makes her head feel better the price of vanity it drives me nuts she has a scalp that itches all the time to please everyone else - crazy
Lesley
Just tell her that if she carries on it will all drop out and that will be worse than having grey hair

AnnieP
Well, day 4 here and after mucking out the stinky donkeys I HAD to wash it. The white vineger went well. Can't believe it doesn't smell! Its currently drying but what is amazing is that my hair, which is quite long, is always very tangly when I brush it after washing: I have to brush it before I start and always use conditioner, otherwise I just can't get a brush through it. Well, today it wasn't tangly at all and I gave it a really good scrub, more than I would with shampoo. Hooray! Will watch with interest to see how it dries and looks. Guest
That is my experience too Annie. No conditioner for 3 weeks now and my hair is probably about the same as usual if not a little better. I have been wasting so much money on shampoo and conditioner! Not any more though!
AnnieP
My conditioner is £8 per bottle! Now...what shall I spend that on instead?
Guest
Vinegar's much cheaper - and you'll only need it for 12 weeks!

Guest
Progress perhaps? Sheila, what is yours like? Today I wasn't sure if my hair needed a vinegar rinse, it looked OK. However just in case it suddenly got bad, I did it anyway. I am really pleased. For the first time, with a vinegar rinse, my hair looks clean and shiny all over, even on the top. And it feels really soft. Very pleased! DD3 has just rinsed her hair in water again today and hers now looks shiny, clean and a beautiful colour. She is very pleased too! DS has had no problems at all, like his father, since just rinsing in water. Everyone going for less than 3 weeks - it will settle down so don't give up. I am really enjoying the benefits now. Aylana
Mine is looking fine today, I gave it a rinse just with water after going to the gym. I hadn't told OH about any of this before, but as he is the most brutally honest person I have ever met I decided to ask him how my hair looked as I had "washed" it with something different. He said it looked the same as normal and asked what shampoo I had bought! Definately a good result!

AnnieP
Day 6. Looks grim, but as I'm only scrubbing off grout from tiles, I don't really care! I'll stick a hat on my head if somebody knocks on the door!! Could somebody describe in graphic detail to me the routine with oatmeal? I only have porridge oats in my cupboard, which if I can use them will be great, as they're going out of date! Can I use these?
spott
ok, i am trying this now, too, thuogh by necessity, as my shower is broken, no hot water... ypou can get oatmeal from oats with a blender... i have lots of food allergies, so i use them baking, but be acreful, it an make a mess... but i would really like a step-by step account of the oatmeal thingy, too. tried it yeaterday, but i must have done something wrong since it really didn't work... btw, what works best for the itchy scalp i get when i don't wash my hair? the vinegar rinse worked well for about 12 hrs. now i am back to sq1. Aylana
I used ready brek on my hair which is just porridge oats and it worked fine. I don't know how other have done it, but I just kneeled over the side of the bath grabbed a handfull of oats and rubbed them into my hair using the same motion as if I was rubbing in shampoo. I made sure that I rubbed the oats in to all parts of my hair and scalp and then brushed them out into the bath. I did it quite vigorously so my hair was quite tatty by the end of it. Sorry not sure about the itchy scalp spott, but glad to have you on board!
Happymama
Well, here I am again. And I have a confession. I suggested the oatmeal because it makes sense. It absorbs oil. I never actually tried it myself! Now that you've all got on board with it, please remember to WASH IT OUT after you've used it, just the garden tap would do, but don't wander round cursing me with what looks like a severe case of dandruff, will you? Those of you with children - their scalps don't produce the oils yours does, or won't until they reach puberty, so they are completely different. And not using shampoo for a child who is going through puberty could only be a good thing to ease the massive overproduction of sebum that marks teenagedom. Now that there are so many people reasonably committed, i'll mention this, as someone's bound to sooner or later: your scalp will clog up with a layer of dead skin cells. It'll look a bit like dandruff if it gets really bad, mine does after about 9 days of no waterwashing at all, so I need to rinse once a week to avoid it. If you scratch your scalp you'll lift it under your fingernails, give it a try so you see what I mean. This is as far as I know the product of a HEALTHY SCALP, so don't worry. Just use the pads of your fingers to mobilise it and rinse very well. The vinegar will help, as the flakes of skin will be stuck together with your scalp oils although I don't bother anymore. As I say, mine seems to build up over 7 days or so, yours may be different! In fact, twice a week would be perfect for me, but I can't be bothered to straighten it more often, it's very thick and quite long. I'm off to try some oatmeal this week! OMHO baby shampoo is as bad as 'adult' shampoo. Do with that opinion what you will, but I don't use it on my 3 under-5's! When your hair is wet, have you noticed how much heavier it is? And how easy it is to dry? Because it's full of waterproof moisturiser! How many people are converted now?
Happymama
Spot - time. That's what you need more of to stop that itchy sticky scalp. Time. Rinse more if you like.
Guest
How many people? I'm not sure if I can list everyone! Perhaps people can quote me and then add their names. That way we can compile a complete list. Ginette, P PN, DD3 DS Anne + Peter Sheila Linda Clare T's DD + possibly Clare too AnnieP Aylana Louise I know there are others but I'm not sure I can accurately remember the names so please add yourself and don't be offended!
