Mirkwood
I have some quail and unfortunatley i lost 2 to a cat attack , the wire was too big and the girls kept putting their heads out, so we put on much smaller gauge. This has been covered in see through corragated plastic all winter but we decided to take off the top layer yesterday because we didnt want it to become too hot for them. Went out this morning and something ( i bet it Mooky the neighbours cat) has broken the bottom piece of plastic and tried to pull one of the quail through the wire again, i only had the body left. they are so tame that she must have squeezed her head through because there is no other way of it happening they are not afraid of Scamp the Dog they peck him and he lets them. I have 3 left now but i am taking them out of the run they are in and putting them in an ark to bring nearer the house.

Mirkwood
thank you so much . I have just brought them an ark online and i will have them nearer the house because Mooky the cat is always trying her luck she is a huge cat bigger than my Jack Russell. In the mean time as soon as my husband come home from work i will get him to board up 18 inches all round their cage, it will do till the ark arrives. Mirkwood
The cat has just been back again so i'm pretty sure it's her, she also tries to kill the birds that visit my garden. I took part in the garden bird watch but didnt seem to get the usuals appearing, i took a trip around the garden to only find her sittting in a conifer. I have put netting around the whole tree now so she cant get in there. I have to say i know it's what comes natural but i really am not thinking nice things about that cat at the moment
clucky1
That is awful. I am so sorry I think that there is some plant that cats don't like the smell of (not sure what it is called -maybe someone else may know?) Maybe you could plant it around the netting. ???(Failing that something prickaly)?
Mirkwood
I will never be able to let my hens out without being out there with them, becaue she will try her luck with them i'm sure as i say she is a very BIG cat, and strange as this may sound she is very streetwise. if ever there is a cat fight you can take bets that she's involved. Mrs Webmuppet
One of my ex-colleagues used to 'borrow' various dogs from other colleagues and get them to wee around the perimeter of her garden to keep cats out. It worked most of the time. Is there a gadget like a 'foxwatch' that could get the cat out?
chickenlass
I love cats but that would really bug me. Do you know how she is getting into your garden?? Is it possible to put a higher fence around the garden at all? I wonder if one of those cat scarer gizmos [b and Q I think] would be any good.? Mirkwood
I have a Jack Russell who chases her out but she is not allowed in her own house so ealry morning is when she hits us.Scamp did get her once but i stopped him that time because as much as i hate that cat i do not wish it torn apart by Jack Russell. i suspect she is not fed properly either. i have played with the idea of feeding her out near her own house however i fear it will make matters worse. my husband has just come home and aftera few choice words, absolutely un-repeatable, he has grab the hammer nd is now putting an 18inch skirt around the quail run and yes agrees on the purchase of the ark but is a little coserned about them having enrichment in the ark. They loved to dig in the pansy pots i put when first had them so i will probably do that again i think, just use smaller pots. at the moment they have all manner of little trees and bushes in which to hide under. We wont have any more now that will be it for them, a shame because if you tame them they seem quite nice little things. but the ark will come in useful anyway.
