snowchick
Our girls loooove to free-range - when I let them out of the run, they all run really quickly and flap about. They are getting more and more confident now though and are getting closer to the garden pond. What should I do?
Laura & CTB
Hi Kelly You may need to fence it off or cover it - chickens get waterlogged. We have had someone on the forum who's chicken drowned in their pond.
chickencam
I'd say it depends upon how large your pond is and how many plants etc are in it. Are there things for them to get hold of or stand on in the pond to help them get out? we only have a small pond and one of our chickens fell in once when she didn't quite put her brakes on in time, she tried to balance on the fountain in the middle but that fell over and then she flapped out. we have a ledge around the edge and a couple of plants in pots so i am hoping that they would be able to get out
snowchick
It's 3ft deep and full of koi and plants but I think we are going to have do fence it off which is a shame
BarbaraJ
Couldn't you put wire over the top, look less obtrusive?
Laura & CTB
Can you use something that you can just put over it when the girls are out? I have to fence off my herbs temporarily when I let my girls out of then run but when they're back in the run I take the fence down so I can see my plants again
