I have just come back from my village postoffice............

Recommended Posts

I felt the need to share this with you:

I have just got back from a shopping trip to my local, rural village post-office/shop.

This place is the HUB of our community and well what THEY don't know isn't worth knowing !

Although we often all visit the place for our stamps and when we have run out of bread or milk - it is our little place to 'just pop into' for a natter.

I remember once going in their in a flood of tears  after dropping my little girl off at nursery and for about the umpteenth time she had burst into tears and wrapped herself around my legs. The postlady and assistant had duly 'sorted' me out with a strong cup of tea.

Today - In a friendly manner they informed me that I had been the source of some postoffice gossip yesterday (there words-not mine). How exciting' I told them.

Apparently, there egg supplier had announced that his customers had hit an all time low and that he blamed it on people like me (villagers whom were getting there own chickens)

He announced that the 'chicken culture' was getting out of hand.

Well I just didn't know what to say. Fortunatly the ladies in the post-office thought it was very amusing.

I don't think I will be having any of the supermarkets banging on my door angrily just yet - but you never know.

I wondered if any of you have got a 'hub' of your community and any funny tales.

What do you think of the egg suppliers comments ?

Maybe your eggs just taste nicer! This is the comment I always get, even from people who buy free-range organic 'they tasted so different'.

Perhaps he will review just how good his product is. I think it's great news that more and more people are getting garden eggs - I haven't bought any for nearly a year now. 8)

We have a village Post Office like that.......... but haven't had any complaints about eggs  You really have upset him haven't you

If his eggs are free range then he should be gaining new customers who are moving away from supermarkets.........not losing out to small scale producers.....
