Pinkybijou
I've loved reading up on the last week's eggs, but sadly still no blimmin eggs here!!! Doris now has been couching for 11 days and has lovely bright red comb etc, but still no egg! Dora is still flighty and her rose comb isn't really red yet, so I don't think she'll be for a while yet. The waiting is killing me!! I've had these chooks and my eglu almost 10 weeks now!!!! Please send my chooks eggy vibes everyone! PennyTikkaNoodles
PennyTikkaNoodles - did you get enough eggs for your pavlova in the end? I hope the birthday party went well. Yes I did get enough eggs for the pavlova in the end. Just in the nick of time. Everyone said how delicious the pavlova was - the egg whites are just so much thicker than shop bought ones. Have 5 egg yolks now to do something with. I guess I could make some lemon curd. I know there is a good recipe in this forum somewhere. Anyone know of anything else to do with egg yolks?? I seem to recall chocolate pots use alot of egg yolks. Penny didn't lay today but hopefully she will get into the swing of things tomorrow and lay in the nest. It is all just so exciting
Sarah B
Creme Brulee!!!!!!! Mega Yum!!!!! Lots of egg yolks needed for those
superjules
The waiting is killing me!! I've had these chooks and my eglu almost 10 weeks now!!!! Please send my chooks eggy vibes everyone! Kris Doris, Welsummer Dora, Wyandotte Well if you will have these fancy chooks!! My wyandotte doesn't crouch so don't be surprised if Dora doesn't either. They're far too above it all! Magpie started crouching 2 weeks before she managed to make an egg for us. I'm sure it won't be long before you get a beautiful, rich terracotta coloured egg. (I was very tempted by a welsummer...can you tell?)
PennyTikkaNoodles
Tks Sarah B. Creme Brulee it is then. Just found a recipe on BBC food website and it looks pretty easy. I can see keeping chickens will not do anything for my waistline!

Do you know how old your chickens were when you got them? I'm sending egg vibes specially for you! Ms Tilytinkle - I was told my hens were 16 to 17 weeks old when I got them. They started laying when they were 21 to 22 weeks old. They both started laying in their 6th week with me, within a few days of each other. I've been away (really missed my hens ) I came home to lots of lovely eggs though!

Pinkybijou
Oh hurray at last! Doris left us a beautiful brown speckled egg in the nesting box today!!!!!!!!!!! I found it and then shut the door on it and got my 5 year old son to go and look 'to see' if there was an egg. He was pleased so I gave him the phone and told him to ring daddy. I pranced around the garden while he was ringing. The conversation went like this: son: "Daddy Doris did us an egg!" daddy: "That's great!" son: "It's brown with speckles" daddy: "Fabulous!" mummy: *whispers* "tell Daddy how excited we all are!" son: *dull tone* Daddy .... mummy's very excited." Doncha just love em? So, it's official, I am doing the egg dance while my children nonchalantly get on with their lives in a kind of *yeah mum, it's an egg* kind of way. Mad? Me? Oh, and it was 47 grammes, not bad I think for a small chook. Must go and lie down now, all that egg dancing has tired me out! Thanks for the egg vibes!! love Kris Doris (Welsummer) 31.3.8! Reikiranf
Well done Doris Lets keep the positive egg vibes going so we all have all our girls laying soon! And how about some excitement vibes for our underwhelmed children? I found an egg yesterday and was thrilled to bits that it was still warm, came running in and handed it to DS (equally thrilled) who took it to his big sister and said "Feel that Lucia" to which she screamed "Go away, you're sick, I'm not touching that it's come out of a chickens bum"

Chuckov
hehehe thanks Sarah and Cathy! I checked 7 times today for eggs I think it's because I've got an Egg Skelter on the way and nothing to put in it that I'm so keen for them to get going! Clarabelle
Emma - I hope that tomorrow is the day that either Ginger or Nutmeg starts to lay and I hope the same is true of Sarah's Tikka. The Gingernuts are definitely younger than the Pepperpots in this recent batch by all accounts. Still, it was only 5 days between my two, so COME ON YOU GINGERNUTS!!! Clarabel hasn't had a day off yet, bless her, I hope she doesn't wear herself out! DH is avidly plotting weights on his graph and they are fluctuating slightly, but we haven't had anymore double yolkers yet.
redhotchick
I'd love a double yolker! Have you eaten it yet Clarabelle? (my memory is terrible so sorry if you have already said!)
