Olly
I tried two London branches, one smallish and one huge one I asked at the pharmacy counter, and neither of them said they didn't sell it, just that they didn't have it in stock. I would have thought there's not much call for it, these days! I reckon the local old-fashioned chemist's shop is more likely.
pelicano
How is anyone trying this doing? I've been about 2 weeks now, and went out with just a dusting of powder on yesterday (unheard of for me - I've always got make up on!) Snowy
I want to keep on with this, but I've only done the one deep cleanse so far. I only ever use a wet wash cloth on my face anyway as I don't wear make up at the moment. And I have a couple of pots of moisturiser to use up (again, if I remember to use it). Although this morning I showered and used the normal bar soap on my face - straight away wished I hadn't In future it will just the oil cleanse when needed and get my moisturiser used up. Then it will just be the oil.
Keanie Bean
I've been doing it for about 4 days now, suffering from a bad dose of pre menstural skin at the moment so I look horrific anyway . I look a little better for it but will need to give it a bit longer to really tell. I dont look quite as haggered though Sarah.x
Keanie Bean
I've definately noticed an improvement in my skin after about 6 days of this now, I use almond oil as the base with 30% castor oil mixed with a few drops of clary sage. I had deliberately heavy makeup on yesterday to see if it would cope OK and it worked so much better than all those eye makeup removers that leave you stinging Sarah.x Edited March 28, 2008 by Guest
rachel19
This does look interesting - I've just started using Liz Earle cleanse and polish which i really love ttho so it may be a while before i get round to trying this.
Olly
Well I got some castor oil - in Morrisons in-store pharmacy, to my surprise! It's quite thick and gloopy isn't it. I've been using it for about three days, can't honestly say I have noticed any improvement but I've had a miserable cold and my skin has suffered from that. I will persevere - I'm not sure if I have got the proportions right. My skin is quite dry now I'm older, and I'm not quite sure if I should have more, or less, castor oil in the mix. I'll keep experimenting!
xScrunchee
Hi Olly Castor oil is very drying so if your skin feels tight or dry I would say that you need less castor oil. I find 50/50 leaves my skin too dry so I am going to try using only 25% Castor. Hth
Tina C
I thought it said only 10% for dry skin in the original article? I have found this really interesting - I am generally a water and water girl plus slap on a bit of moisturiser - stopped using soap when I was in my teens - but I don't wear make-up (well maybe once a year). I have never really had any skin problems so I have been able to get away with it. However my skin does get dry sometimes (and this will no doubt get worse in next few years given my age ) so I fancy giving this a go. Also I will try and make my OH read this as he has skin problems and I keep trying to tell him that scrubbing won't help
Olly
ah, thanks for that - I think I have got about 50% castor oil in, I would not have realised something so apparently sticky could actually be drying! I'm going to top the bottle up with some almond oil tonight to thin it down a bit. Will keep trying.
pelicano
Yes, it's definitely worth experimenting with the amounts. I'm back on 50/50 castor and jojoba with my v oily skin, as any more castor and even my skin was drying out. I'm so glad to hear people are having some good results with this. Keanie Bean
I stopped doing this for a few days having done it for just over a week and my skin went back to being quite sore and angry. I've definately had some really good results with a 30% castor 70% almond oil plus a few drops of clary sage oil in a 75ml bottle. Thanks for this thread Pelicano. Sarah.x
Olly
I got off to a bad start, as I didn't read the instructions and used much too high a proportion of castor oil, and then I had a cold followed by a sinus infection, now I'm on antibiotics and having my third period in six weeks ... no wonder my skin looks bad! Because my skin was very red and dry, I have been using just almond oil for the last few nights, and seen a huge improvement. I'm going to add a bit of castor oil to the mix, but much less than before. Definitely going to continue, though - my skin feels much better. Charlottechicken
Hi just wanted to say that i have recently started to us Bio-oil as a cleanser in a similar way and it has worked well Ooh thanks for that Henny Penny, I have a bottle of bio oil and this would be a good way of trying the method and using up something in the bathroom cabinet at the same time I'm sure these things have a shelf life It's a bit expensive to use all the time though
henny penny
I started using it when i went away for several days and had forgotten to take some cleanser with me ('')

henny penny
You could always try mixing a little Bio-oil with another oil like sunflower oil if you were worried about the cost -it may give a more moistursing effect!

AJuff
I may try this oil cleaning method. I am generally too tired (lazy) to clean my face more than once a fortnight. It's quite dry so I use an Earthbound organic facecream to cope with this. I work in a hot environment you see. What I'd really like to know is does this method get rid of blackheads????? Rolo Rabbit
I've only just discovered this thread and I'm intrigued! My skin has never been great although it's a lot better than when I was in my early 20's. Those of you who've been trying it, has it worked? Do you need to use moisturiser as well? I've not read the article very carefully yet as this is supposed be getting ready for school-time. ...Now, I have read it, the article seems to be saying you only do the deep clean thing every few days. So what do you do for cleansing etc on the other days. Is this just an extra to a normal skin care routine?
pelicano
I was just about to add to this post, as I've had some real success by changing my method for the past 2 days, after having done the OCM for about 2 months now. I have really oily skin that is prone to spots, so this won't necessarily work for everyone. Before I was doing the OCM in the evenings, and just using water in the morning to rinse. Here's what I do now: Morning: slap oils on and wipe off with a cotton wool pad. Rinse thoroughly in shower or with warm water Evening: slap oils on and wipe off with a cotton wool pad. Then put more oils on and do the hot flannel treatment. I think it benefits my skin to be a bit cleaner, and the extra oil with the cotton wool pads seems to help that, whilst not causing my skin to over-produce its own oil (ie it doesn't dry it out). I never use a moisturiser, and my skin is way less oily and with less spots than I can remember having for many many years. I'm really excited!! Rolo Rabbit
I'm really pleased for you - I know what it's like. My self-esteem during my late teens and early twenties was rock bottom purely because I felt everyone was looking at me and thinking how dreadful my skin was.(They probably weren't) Hopefully you're not as paranoid as I was! I think I might give this a go but it will have to wait til next month as I'm only buying absolute essentials during May. Thanks for your advice. Olly
I'm still using it, my skin isn't great but then it never has been! I had not realised before this how dry my skin is - this may partly be due to hypothyroidism, which has just been diagnosed. I cut the castor oil down to a very tiny proportion and use a massage oil base for the rest, and that's been much better. I clean with oil every other night, and just use water on the other occasions, I put moisturiser on every morning but not at night. My skin definitely feels softer. Re AJuff's query about blackheads I couldn't honestly say it gets rid of them, but I have noticed an improvement in my blocked pores. I am a bit cautious about steaming because I have very sensitive skin and quite a few thread veins around my nose, don't want to increase them. If you have very dry skin, you probably don't need the castor oil. Might be worth a try anyway. I agree re. the blackheads - I still have a few on my nose, but they are much smaller and fewer in number.
