Don't know if anyone can reassure me. Went to horsey place today to stock up on layers pellets and also wanted some bedding stuff as their run is a mudbath lately. As they were out of hemcore bought some stuff called easibed cause the man said it was similar. When I got it home I realised it was wood not hemp and was a bit worried it wouldn't be the same and might hurt the hens. I put some down anyway in the run and they seemed to think it was food and ate quite a bit as well as digging in it.

Went on the forum in a panic and am a bit reassured because quite a few of you seem to use it or other wood products. Are my hens just dimmer than average, or do other people's hens eat their bedding too? Will it do them any harm? Hope you can help!

Easibed is fine we have used it a lot. :D

Easibed + is slightly better as it has fly repellent in it which is handy in the summer. Easibed has had all the dust extracted like hemcore so it won't cause any respiritory problems either. Easibed also compost well so no worries there either

Hemcore is more absorbant thats all.

Hope this helps,

Kev.

I use Easibed too - I used to use Hemcore then my local chap stopped doing it. When I used Hemcore my eglus used to be covered in a thick layer of dust which I don't get since switching to Easibed, so I think Easibed is much better 'dust-extracted'.
