andymospit
Hi all, would using shredded paper be ok for the nesting box ?
Fabergé
I use shredded paper in ours without any problem, although I put a couple of whole sheets underneath to stop bits falling through the drainage hole. Other people use hemcore or aubiose though - personal choice really.
layla
yes its fine but tbh when i used it it did feel damp and whenever my girls laid an egg it would get covered in newsprint. But give it a go .......it doesn't cost anything .

superjules
I have used it, but my new hens seem to eat it and I don't want them getting poorly so now I use aubiose or easibed, which is what I use in the rest of the run and on the floor of their house. Ain't Nobody Here
I use cross-shredded paper (letters etc not newsprint). I don't find it gets soggy - I just flick any poo out each day onto the roosting bars. They don't seem to eat it either.
Egluntyne
I'm not a fan, I find it goes manky and damp and flattens to nothing. I use Aubiose. The only plus is that it costs nowt and if you use bank statements, even the keenest of identity thieves isn't going to try to put them back together. Jules.
I bought a paper shredder especially- before that I gave my parents my confidential papers to burn on their coal fire. I make my paper into small pieces before I shred it, to stop the hens getting it wrapped around their legs.
