MedusA
Is she crouching yet? That's a dead giveaway that eggs are on their way!
Rolo Rabbit
Yep. She's been crouching since last Saturday so the excitement is getting to fever pitch here. Every morning my daugher and I creep down to check the nesting box and it's so disappointing when it 's empty.
MedusA
It will definitely be very soon then. BTW is that a pic of your bunny as your avatar? He is soooooooo cute.
Rolo Rabbit
No it's not my real bunny - I keep trying to get pics of him but he always has red eyes . He looks very similar though - just blacker and shinier. Gorgeous boy.
chickencam
oooh how exciting, keep us posted. I love the eggs that our Light Sussex lays they are quite big and pointed at one end and taste mmmm. It is nice to see a picture of one with a fluffy bot mine has a bald bum due to feather eating by the other three, my other white hen also has a long term bald bum but her feathers are only eaten by the other 2, white feathers obviously taste nice especially soft downy ones
Rolo Rabbit
My daughter (off from school with conjunctivitis) just came running in saying that Babs and Bella crouched as well!!! So we could be a 3 egg family soon! What I don't understand is 1. why they all crouch for her when I'm the one who does most of the chatting to them? 2. why Babs and Bella think they are ready to lay when their combs and red bits are still tiny and pale? Do some hens just stay little-combed? Hope these pics are the right size - I definitely resized them!

MedusA
Congratulations Shirley! Did you do the egg dance, Rolo?
chocchick
Well done Shirley Megan's comb is quite small and she produces the odd egg. I love the picture where Shirley is face to face with the little Bluebelle. What a lovely little flock. They'll all want to lay eggs now one has, you'll have nestbox queues and chickens crowding round every time you touch the nest
Rolo Rabbit
I didn't exactly dance I'm afraid. My daughter found it and came shrieking into the house and we both went flying back out again yelling at the top of our voices. Then we noticed the neighbours back door was open and felt a bit silly. But it was the most exciting thing that's happened in a very long time. Not sure my non-omlet friends get it!
MedusA
At least your amongst firends who do "get it" here! I bet your neighbour would be glad of some lovely fresh eggs, though (when you have some to spare, of course).
