ajm200
I just use a pan. I don't even own one of those egg poaching pans. I don't believe in parting with my (hubbies) hard earned cash for gadgets and gimmicks that will end up gathering dust in the back of a cupboard
TAJ
Unless the machine varies with size of egg it would not be better than boiling them in a pan, as a bigger egg takes longer. Tracy
bronze
We actually have one of those. Dh brought it with him when we got together. I laughed and laughed when we talked about how he didnt know how to boil an egg. Anyway I now have three children and timing the right length of time always seems to go wrong when I'm distracted by them so I started using the 'egg thingy' and it has to be said its great. You can adjust the time by how much water you add and of course you also allow for the size of egg and how many in the same way. I never thought I would say this but it does have its uses. Not sure I would buy one though

Mrs Webmuppet
Sadly I don't know how to cook eggs as both myself and the OH can't eat eggs unless they are in cakes etc ( they make us poorly). Little Miss Webmuppet doesn't seem to suffer the same but chooses not to eat them unless they are in the form of pancakes etc.

coolchook
Hi, I had an egg boiler machine thingy, and I don't think i ever got an egg right, it all depended on the amount of water you put in and strangly it was less water the bigger the egg! My hubby always used a pan and always got it right, kids made a habit of letting me know too.. So now I boil in a pan and for large eggs it's:- bring water to the boil quickly and then simmer for 4.5 mins I get a runny egg every time and the kids moan at dad now looking forward to getting our chooks this saturday
Rachel F
I love poached eggs but really couldnt be bothered messing around with the poaching pan, etc. Then a neighbour of mine told me that it is possible to poach fresh eggs directly in a pan of boiling water - I always thought you needed a poaching pan. So make sure the water is rolling boiling, simply break an egg directly into the water. The water will settle to a simmer, leave a couple of minutes, and then fish out your perfectly poached egg. They are yummy. Another fail safe, is baked eggs. Wipe a bit of butter around a ramekin dish. Break the egg into the ramekin dish with a small splurge of full cream milk, or cream, then put on a baking tray in a pre-heated oven for about 10 minutes. Much easier to dip soldiers into. Yummy twice over!

jomaxsmith
Delia's How to Cook book 1 covers eggs and gives good advice on poaching and boiling eggs and making omlettes etc. I'm a big fan of the little plastic egg shaped thing that you put in the saucepan with your eggs and it tells you when they're soft/medium/hard boiled. I've just broken mine though so need to get one next time I do a Lakeland order. Jo
superjules
Jo, it's called eggperfect and you can buy one at Colanders in Hitchin. I dropped my old one and it split so I bought a new one recently too. I agree, they're fab aren't they.
