My one bantums has started wrecking the grass over the last three weeks, she just scratches all the time.

I've put a large shallow tray with compost in in the run but of course she hasn't gone in it yet and continues to plough up the lawn, my huspand is NOT impressed!

Any ideas on how to encourage her to use it?

Mine are ploughing up my wet lawn at the moment searching for worms. They don't do this in dry weather. And they have a dust bath which they do use.

They prefer the dust bath to be bone dry earth, so I get it out of hubbie's greenhouse and top it up with some Auboise (and Diatom for good measure).

Mine actually use their dust bath rather than the borders ( though I haven't got a lawn for them to dig up ! ) I use a mixture of mole hill dirt ( lovely and fine, have you got any mole hills near by ? ) and bird sand, which has alot of grit in it, when they aren't bathing in it , they are eating it !

Mine eat their dustbath that I made for them

They wait until they get outside to have a dustbath in a pile of compost that we recently emptied out of our composter to use in a raised bed. They've spread it all over the grass.

Our two ladies regularly dust bath in what is left of our old compost heap - it was just a pile at the top of the garden before we got a proper compost bin. Now it is completely wrecked and spread out all over the place and they love it
