My dog's in season, advice please...

Recommended Posts

....Hi there, Delilah has come into season for the first time, I thought she was going to as on the last two walks she's attracted a LOT of attention from the boys if you know what I mean. Poor thing doesn't seem to know what to do with herself, has spent half the morning so far outside squatting and is so restless. I've never had a 'female' before, only dogs, apart from keeping her away from the boys is there anything I can do to make her feel less miserable? I was thinking Bach rescue remedy or that sort of thing. Also, I was told it can last about a month, is that about right? Not sure I can cope with PMT for a month from an 8 1/2 stone dog!! :lol:

We had this last year with Jazz - just as we were due to go to Edinburgh for an Omlet get-together......... the thought of parading in Edinburgh with a queue of dogs did not appeal to say the least :lol:

Jazz didn't seem too bothered so I can't help you there (Buffie is the one you need)........ but we did buy Miki Doggie Pants. www.canineconcepts.co.uk and other pet stores.

Shona's liitle girl was most disappointed when Louise and I met up with Shona but didn't bring a dog wearing pants :lol: - I left her with Carl.

I used a pair of the kids knickers for my girl :shock: I just cut a hole for her tail and used normal sanitary towels :shock: Thankfully it never bothered Mille. Sorry not much help. Here are a couple of pics of her in her knickers. The funny thing is they somehow ended up back in my daughters draw (washed of course) and she wore them!!!!

I'm off to ask my 7 year old now, you can just see her face can't you? Can I borrow some of your knickers so the dog can wear them? Now, the only other question is, with wings.....? :lol::lol:

Oh dear, hope she doesn't start rollerskating backwards in a leotard, that's what we all do during that "time of the month" according to the adverts!!

Awww, bless her.

When we rescued Jezebel, she hadn't been spayed and drove me mad when she came into season, the worst bit was dragging her bits along the floor :shock: We got through the first season and then had her spayed as we had no intention of breeding from her.

I love the pants Paola - did she remember to take them down when she went out for a wee? :lol:

I think the advice has changed recently - doesn't it always? :roll: - and current advice is that larger breeds do benefit from having their first season and then being spayed.

That is how we ended up in Edinburgh with Jazz in her pants :D She was spayed 4 months later.

I wasn't going to let her have a season, but I was quoted £350 to have her spayed and nearly died of fright! :shock: Anyway, a new independent vet has opened at the top of our road and just as I rang them to make enquiries Delilah started, :roll: but they've quoted a far more realistic £165, so she's booked in provisionally for 2 months time. I also get 10% off ALL treatments for her and the cat and the chooks for LIFE as part of their opening deals :lol: plus I prefer having an independent vets rather than a big corporate company which is what our old vets was before it got taken over.

:shock::shock::shock: Flippin' Nora!

:? Mind you Zeus is going in to the Orthopedic vet on tuesday and may be operated on the same day (he has busted his cruciate, no-one knows how) and I am braced for a £1500-£2000 impact!

I know, I should have got him insured... :roll:
