Soya
My three chickens passed away a week today, its taken me this long to be able to log on I miss them so much. A fox had been in in the middle of the day and my chucks were free ranging, never again I have ordered a cube with 5 m run I could never chance letting them out again unless I am in. Our family is so upset we loved them all dearly. Soya, you made me love chickens with your special ways I will miss you so much, I feel so guilty you had such an awful end and hope you are happy. Chicky, brandon picked you as you were so beautiful, you loved sweetcorn and to chase him around the garden, we hope you are happy. Teen, the special dutch chuck, you were shy but we loved you and your funny way of always staying behind the others testing the water, sara misses you terribly. Rest in peace my special friends you will forever be a part of our family.
Egluntyne
How very sad.....I'm so sorry to read about this. It is the worst time of year for fox attacks as their cubs arrive around now.

cluckbok
Oh we are really sorry, that's really sad, we know it must be terrible cause we are really attached to ours and adore them. Good idea getting new big run now that's happened. I worry alot about ours in the garden.
Abbey Road Girl
Be at peace. They suffered for a few moments but they are no longer in "this vale of tears". Still, you will miss them. But only because you loved them. Wear that badge with pride.
Soya
Thankyou all so much your words are so kind, we are all so shocked its just awful, I am counting the days till my cube arrives (19th may) but it is so long away just wish I could go pick one up and get some ladies this weekend. I cant believe how much chickens have changed my life and now they have gone I just feel lost, have been going through all the posts for the last week to gain some sense of grief as people can be so cruel, I seem to be the butt of many jokes at the moment cause 'they were only chickens' but at least you lot understand. I have not been on here before and tried to put a photo of them on but not sure how to do it. Jen

chelsea
I agree with the others, I can believe people are saying "they are only chickens". People without chickens dont understand what special little characters they are and what enjoyment they bring - take no notice. So sorry to hear about your hens
Ain't Nobody Here
Soya, you'll find info * here * on how to post photos. Non-chicken people just don't get it do they . They wouldn't be like that if you lost a dog or cat .
Abbey Road Girl
They were never "only chickens". I wept more over my hamster Minnie than I did over my late husband. Why? Because Minnie accepted my love and my husband did not.
Egluntyne
People are so insensitive aren't they. A loss is a loss.....just because it isn't a mainstream pet doesn't mean it is any less worthy of being mourned. Just noticed that you are in Yorkshire too. Whereabouts roughly? superjules
I'm so, so sorry - that must have been absolutely awful for you. I had the same sort of insensitive comments when my Marigold died in February. People who I consider friends said some really tactless things. They don't realise how attached you become to them. I hope the time from now until you get your cube passes very quickly for you, although I'm sure your garden will feel very empty in the meantime. moomin
I've spent many a day at work after loosing a special animal, trying to hold myself together when all I wanted to do was go home. Sometimes I haven't even told my colleagues as mostly they don't understand and you feel ridiculed. I hope the time passes quickly until you get your cube and your new girls, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
Gallina
I didn't appreciate how full of character hens were until I got my own, and I don't expect you did either, so you have to forgive your friends. It's dreadful losing all your hens like this. But on a positive note: I have adored all my new hens just as much as the first two. And you will love the Cube, and will be able to expand your flock. I would strongly recommend holding on to the Eglu if you have the space, as it provides a painless way of introducing even more new hens later. I do hope your message will make everyone who lets their hens free-range more wary. Never having seen a fox in your area does not mean that they are not regularly doing a recce when you aren't watching. They are very cunning, and are coming out in daylight much more often than they used to.
MedusA
Sorry to hear your sad news, Soya. A fox got one of my girls last autumn, so I know how you feel. Luckily we surprised the fox before it killed my other chook, Scully, who recovered from a nasty bite and is now my top chook. When will you get your new girls?
