rachel m
just seen your girls, what a lovely idea!! and you looked quite busy hanging the washing out! my husband was talking about putting a camera in the eglu so he can see what they get up to at night and whether they snore!! i guess we need to get one with night vision for that purpose
cluckbok
Hi ya, Yeah busy hanging out washing Got washing, washing and more washing!! Had clear out in loft yesterday! Found some clothes in there for my youngest. The chooks keep watching me as though to say let us out or where are our treats. Yeah you would need a night vision cam to see them in the eglu at night, ours goes completely once it gets dark. Be worth doing, would be really funny to see them. daj198
The site doesn't work for me anymore. It was fine when there was a still frame bit but now that it's all live feed I can't see it
chelsea
we got our camera from maplins yesterday....its not linked to the web yet - only the telly. I was in hysterics last night watching the girls go to bed I never realised what figits they are overnight.
cluckbok
The site doesn't work for me anymore. It was fine when there was a still frame bit but now that it's all live feed I can't see it No probs, I have put the live feed up and taken away the 1second updated frames. What I will do is put up a menu option so you can get up the old style 1 second updated static image so that you can still see them. At some point tomorrow you may also find that the live feed does start working for you as I am going to be placing some new technology in front of it. The live feed doesn depend on you having the right Java bits and pieces in place. If you are just seeing a black screen, then that maybe due to the chooks having gone to bed and us shutting the door in front of the camera. Let me know what works for you after tomorrow evening. Thanks for letting me know.

I thought about doing that, might still do it so I can see them in the eglu at night. bet it is really funny seeing them fidgeting on their roosting bars

Hubby also bought a decoder (whatever that is!) so we can see them online. Its really good, we sat last night for an hour watching them go in a roosting time where you can clearly see the pecking order, and they dont sleep all night either. Sometimes though the shot is blocked by big fluffy bums!

Hubby also bought a decoder (whatever that is!) so we can see them online. I thought they slept all night, when I have gone out to our late at night it always appears to be very silent. I was going to get an infra-red camera but I was worried that the infra-red LEDs might light up too bright inside the eglu. Is this the case? or do they even show up at all? I went to shut them up last night and never noticed anything (and the camera is right in front of the door at the back of the eglu) im sure if it was bright I would have noticed. I will make a point of looking tonight!
Snoxy
Just taken another look at your girls...fab idea I noticed the bell shaped, seed thingy hanging from the run...where did you get it from please? Thanks
cluckbok
Hi ya, We got the seed bell from local pet shop. It's a wild bird seed bell with honey. They pecked it when first put it in, now they not interested. Worth a try though. Similar to the peckablok I think.
Snoxy
Thank you...I bought a mirror, cabbage and grit today to add to my collection of garlic powder, ACV etc., etc. Really want to look after the girls and keep them I did see one of those in the shop I went into this morning...think it may have been exactly the same but I wasn't sure if it would be suitable for chickens p.s. Another question...hope you don't mind The grit I bought today states on the packet it is suitable for all birds...the man in the shop said it would be perfectly ok for our girls although it has a picture of a budgie on the front of the packet...what do you think? I also bought a small halfmoon shaped, clip-on feeder to put it in...I clipped it onto the side of the run near their grub...do you think this is ok? Thank you Edited April 20, 2008 by Guest
cluckbok
Hi ya, Sounds ok to me. Ours have the oyster shell type grit all broken up, we got it from place where they sold the aubiose. The feeder sounds ok. They will be alright when you are out, they can't have you at their beck and call! We just carry on as normal, if we need to pop out we do. But if we away all night then the neighbour checks on them and shuts them in at night. There may be another omleteer along in a mo with some advice too. sheik
Thanks for posting your guide cluckbok, you've inspired me to set up my own cam It works well, but with a poor framerate - I've sent you a PM with some techie questions, hope you don't mind. Anyway, it was a fun project and will make us smile when we're at work and feel like seeing how our chickens are doing! /\dam

I use mixed poultry grit with oystershell - you could always look out for some when you need more. Is this the kind of feeder you mean? I use one and it works very well.
