Noodle
After many months of searching for the ideal solution for our chooks we have finally built our run in THREE hours. I am so excited and the chooks seem very happy. We bought pre made panels, used the existing garden fence as one side to save on the cost, put paving slabs down and have left a strip of grass/soil at the back for them. I put half the eglu run inside the pen so that they have some shelter and to keep their dustbath dry. I have also added an extra glug and grub set for them. I am hoping to sort out a roof soon, and raise the eglu to increase the floor area. The run is 9ft x 9ft We have not had one squabble since they went in. Yeah!!! Guest
it looks great but do your next door neighbours have concrete on their side of the fence? If not a fox or something else could dig under the fence. Don't want to worry you, just pointing it out in case you hadn't thought of that. Looks as though the run is on paving slabs Edited to add- Oh I see what you mean now!!! It looks like there is an area on soil. Sorry Poet
Ash
I have a run about the same height as that but a smaller floor space and my chooks still managed to get on top and out. B anq Q do some 3 meter (9.8ft) corragated plastic panels for £7 each if you find you need a roof.
Noodle
Hi Poet Thanks for your concern. The other side of the fence is a narrow concrete path. Nicky
FruitandNutCake
Wow, that is so good, and in only 3 hours! I wish I had bought pre-made panels! I've been working on mine for a week - nearly finished putting mesh on the roof. I have had to dig a few trenches as well! I'll put the photos up as soon as I get them uploaded. Guest
Hi PoetThanks for your concern. The other side of the fence is a narrow concrete path. Nicky great, it looks lovely. If poss, try to slope your roof so rain doesn't gather on top. Not a big deal but just a tip. We didn't slope ours and because the rain pools in the ridges, it leaks thru the joins. You've done a great job, post some more pics as it progresses.
Noodle
Thanks for the comments. My OH has been promising for so long but really did not want to do the job. I costed making the run from scratch and it was so expensive. I think the premade panels were very reasonable - got them from here: http://www.riversideaviaries.co.uk/aviaries.htm - £15 each and £22 with a door - and they meant that it did not take us too long to put up. Will make such a difference to be able to walk in the run to clean it.

peanut12
Fantastic. I love what you've done with the eglu run end piece and the shade - genius!
MedusA
If poss, try to slope your roof so rain doesn't gather on top. Not a big deal but just a tip. We didn't slope ours and because the rain pools in the ridges, it leaks thru the joins. I thought I had sloped my roof enough, but obviously not as mine pools and leaks in places. It keeps the worst of the rain off though. Lovely run, Noodle! I can't believe you did all that in 3 hours. Fantastic!
moomin
That looks excellent Noodle, a really cheap and easy way to make a run! I like the idea of the covered dustbath. Like a little private area for them to go and do their abolutions. (don't know if that's spelt right but you know what I mean!!).
chelsea
Looks very nice , but I would say that - you have exactly the same run panels as me!! your chooks are lucky girls.
