Grumpy Old Men/Women

Recommended Posts

Just been browsing the various new topics. I can't seem to catch up at the moment and I am supposed to be on holiday.:shock: Anyway, there seems to be a bit of a similar theme running through the ones I have read so far, so I thought we could have somewhere to have a little rant/ moan etc and get things off our chests all in the privacy of this forum.

I'll start the ball rolling with people who have to park on the doorsteps of either the supermarket, library, school and the one that annoys me the most the sports centre :evil: . Harry used to do football on a saturday morning at out local sports centre. The entrance to this was double and triple parked so you could barely get through the doors. Even though there was a huge car park all around the place, which I usually had to myself.

PS I also hate it when you hold the door open for someone and they just walk through without even a glance let alone a thank you. This seems to be a trait of the older generation (well older than myself) as most younger people seem to at least give you a grunt of acknowledgement.

I also hate it when............. anybody else like to have a rant. Go on I know you want to :wink:

I hate it when you are on the bus and people sneeze or cough down your back...bleugh!

And why do school run mums have to park on the double yellow lines outside the school when they drop their precious little angels off - it just wouldn't do to make them walk an extra 20 yards now, would it??!

I beg your pardon, but my children walk to school and nursery every day, no matter what the weather!

Tch!

Careful who you side with Martin, you may become unpopular if you side with GRD and his "witty" remarks

That aside...

I hate it when you run for a tram, the tram drivers see you AND drive off sometimes when you have your hand on the door

Also inflation on said tram fares

It says a lot about me, but bad spelling and grammar drives me nuts especially on signs and public places when it should have been checked

Sarah Jane returns with K-9 in episode 3 (I loved Sarah Jane and was totally upset when she left the series - I was only 6 at the time). I organised a big charity Doctor Who event in '89 and got Lis Sladen (Sarah Jane) along and she gave me a kiss! 8):D

She came to my primary school with K9 many, many years ago, and I got totally star-struck and asked her for a photgraphed autograph.:oops: Durrrrrrrrrr!

I loath it when people let their children do the following things.......

1 - Run around in reasturants when other families are trying to eat & chat

2 - Pronounce their words badly,I hate dropped H's & T's

3 - Interrupt when others are talikng. It is the height of rudeness.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh & Shona  I do park outside the school gates to drop Cleo off

But,although we only live a mile away there is no path to walk on & its a nasty fast country road,so we have to drive. There is nowhere to park & Cleo doesn't want me to walk her to the gate (she is a very grown up 11 now).

I am unwilling to let her walk the 300 or so yards from where I can park to the school gate,so I do drop her off.Sorry!

They're on my list too! Along with people answering "What?" when someone calls their name. It sounds awful!

I don't actually mind that - chucking them out the car, while you stay in. What I object to is the parents who park on the double yellow line, then get out and take the children up to school, stop and have a gossip and generally cause mayhem - THERE IS DOUBLE YELLOW LINES FOR A REASON!!!!!! At our school there is 'safe crossing places' marked clearly with yellow lines and signs, but the lines get ignored and there is no safe place for the school children to cross - no lollipop lady/man either. Neither the school or the ;local police are interested in enforcing the yellow lines as no-one has been knocked down YET.

:evil::evil::evil::evil:

Which infuriates me - why should someone (potentially) be killed before the police are willing to enforce the law???

*Rant over*

Along with people answering "What?" when someone calls their name. It sounds awful!

What should they say instead? We had massive discussions about this recently at work, as many children say "What?".

After long and careful debate this is what we came to the conclusion of:

"What?" can be the appropriate response if someone has called their name in a way which implies something is required of them. ie. it is short literally for "What do you want?". I know lots of people believe "pardon" is the correct response if you don't hear someone, or just catch your name being said, but its not really, since pardon is "sorry". Why should you apologise?:lol:

I think however, that "yes?" is a much better response!

However, "what?" is correct if you don't hear somebody, ie. "what did you say", although I was always brought up to say "pardon?". Oh isn't the English language confusing!

I was always brought up to say 'yes' if someone said my name, but now have a really annoying habit of going 'HELLOOOOOOOOOOO', which irritates me, chookiehubbie, the boys, my parents, everyone!

The response has to be "Yes?" in my book, as in "Yes, that's me, I'm listening. What do you want/want to say?"

:D:D

My daughter caught me out when she was about three. She came up to me and said, "Mummy, guess what?", to which I replied, "What?" She then looked very shocked and said very loudly, "Oooh, Mummy said What!" From then on I always answered "What's that?" when faced with "Guess what?":?
