Rob&Vicky
Hello, This is our first time posting on the forum so we hope we've put this question in the correct place. We bought 4 lovely bantams from Salisbury poultry auction yesterday. They have settled well and we even got 2 eggs this morning! The query we have is about vaccinations. Because they were bought from auction we were not able to ask the breeders whether they are vaccinated or not. Is it common practice to vaccinate birds prior to auction? If not, is it neccessary to vaccinate them and how much does it cost? Looking forward to getting advice from the wise.
Egluntyne
Small breeders don't generally vaccinate as the vaccines are given as food supplements and can only be bought in industrial quantities. Why not have a chat with your vet to see what your options are.

Ain't Nobody Here
Hi Rob&Vicky, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your chickens (and eggs already!) . My 3 came from a local farmer. They weren't vaccinated (he went when I asked). I can't really remember the details now, but I think I read somewhere that unless they're vaccinated as chicks, there's no point doing it later. Also, small flocks are less likely to need vaccinating than large. I may have that totally wrong so I'll be interested in what your vet says. So, mine are unvaccinated but so far healthy .
